Lovely Video! Apologies for chiming in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Riddleagan Master Violinist Remedy (do a search on google)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for playing violin like a master minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my best friend Jordan at last got excellent results with it.

I am just a total new learner who is 27 years old now. I finished my first lesson last week and G (key?) goes below the 5 lines, D is right under the no.1 line to say from your whiteboard and A and E are in the right spaces...... The book also describe Every Good Boy Does Fine and F-A-C-E in the earlier pages..... i didn't know how I got G to be under the 5 lines...... may be the teacher skipped a bit and may be she will adapt later with the lessons. I have nothing of music knowledge and music background......... Yet this video is clear and simply explained...... Thank you so much for sharing and teaching........ God Bless You!

The only reason I can think of for learning to read music is if you wish to play other people’s music I guess. I’m unsure as to why somebody would want to spend their life memorizing other people’s musical expressions rather than creating their own. I once asked an accomplished classical musician to just express themselves from their heart and he played Beethoven. I said no, not from Beethoven’s heart, from your heart. He played Mozart. I said no, from YOUR heart. He was lost, could only play memorized runs. So the art of creating music and improvisation has been replaced by reading other people’s creations and memorizing them. Not for me but this is a fabulous video, thank you. You are a wonderful Teacher, thank you for lesson.
@HeatherKaye

Thanks for watching. Understanding and reading music allows one to understand music theory and yes...if someone would ask me to play from my heart, I would be able to with my own music. Perhaps the musicians you asked were playing from their heart, just not their own music :)

Heather Broadbent Some of us don't understand where to put our fingers, I totally understand how to read notes (thank GOD you explained so clearly) but again how does that correspond on where to put your fingers ?

Sorry, but this wasn't any help. It was made out as if it were for a four-year old(overly simplified) and it didn't tell me what I had to know: which notes correspond to what fingering.

Check out Fretless Finger Guides. This should answer your questions about the notes and your fingers on the violin.

phantomcruizer I have, prior to watching this, but it is difficult. I prefer the simplicity of guitar tabs

..I'm afraid that comment is completely unjustified. I am not just beginning to play music and I do not need toys to learn. I do not WANT simplicity. I chose this instrument partially for that reason-- and that the instruments I have do not generally correspond with the "classical" genre, which I prefer to most. I simply have not read sheet music(mostly guitar tabs) for years, and I wanted to start with this instrument, so I decided to learn how to read sheet music again.
