Many thanks for posting this video.....I never ever serviced a carburetor, so this was a revelation. You made it seem easy, but just to be sure I was doing things right I watched the show three times! First, I removed the bowl and found it was full of a red jelly-like substance which I cleaned up right away. After cleaning where suggested and three teardowns I still wasn't getting any fuel. Then I remembered the part about having the gasket lined up, so a couple of small holes weren't covered. That was it. I reoriented it and on the second pull it started!! It's running too fast, so an adjustment on the black screw should take care of that. You are the best!

Thanks to you Chickanic, i was able to take it apart and know what to do to clean the carb. Now it runs like new. Thanks for ur excellent work. @@Dante-vf4sd if I may suggest, gardeners should take better care of your machines. Also, check your tillers operational a couple weeks before you need to plant. Gardeners are a cantankerous bunch that get all upset when a mechanic is prioritizing a commercial unit over a tiller. When the mechanic tells you the commercial guy needs to make money to live, it does no good to tell the mechanic you need the tiller so you can put food on the table. Last week a self-propelled MTD mower in my neighborhood was on the curb for free--this exact engine was on it. Would start instantly and run briefly, then die every time right away. Same carburetor, so same cleaning process, and wouldn't you know it, someone had tried to fix it already, just as your customer had. The vent tube to the gas tank had been pulled out, and the first gasket between the back of the air cleaner housing and the carb body was literally laying on the mower deck covered in grass clippings. So a simple carb cleaning, reinstall of the errant gasket, reinstall of the gas tank vent, a thorough cleaning, oil change and blade sharpening, and this is the easiest-starting, most user-friendly bagger mower I've ever seen--and I've seen a few, lol! Oh yeah, and I also installed a shut off valve in the fuel line, which goes into every machine I work on, where one will fit. Thanks for what you do on this channel, it really makes this stuff approachable for folks who want to become ever more handy. ;-)

If you get a gas welder tip cleaner it has all sizes of rods with ridges on them that clean the holes better than a straight wire. For long tubes or hoses an old or new (they are cheap) speedometer cable works great. They are very flexible and have ridges to grab junk. Keep this trick I devised years ago for the future when you do carbutator work.. Try this... Heat the plastic tube from the carb cleaner spray with a lighter (about 1/4-1/2 inch from the end. Then pull on each end of the tube to stretch it. This makes the outer/inner tube diameter smaller and more of a pin point. When the melted plastic solidifies, use small wire clippers or nail clippers to snip the tube at the smallest diameter that still provides flow when spraying. The cleaner comes out like a pin point pressure washer and the shrunken plastic tube end fits inside whatever port your spaying thru. You can also do the same to create 90 degree angles in the plastic tube to spray sideways inside long venturi tubes. (like the idle circuit) I used to make/keep custom tubes around for these situations. Hope this makes sense.

Had a guy that had 3 mowers and said he couldn't get 2 of them to run. He said if I could get them to run I could have them. One was a very nice TORO and the other was a Troy-Bilt. Instead of working on them he would just buy a new mower. He was putting very old gas in them and leaving it in the mower over the winter and they were just gunked up with bad fuel. Cleaned the carbs put in fresh gas and they started right up. Tried to give them back to him but he said a deal is a deal.

Lifelong mechanic now in QA. I’m learning a lot about small engine quirks here, so thanks for sharing! Hate to nitpick, but it’s fuel and fire hazard related. Was the fuel line clamp was restored to its proper position? The filter base was installed over an unclamped line. It probably won’t leak much with just gravity feed but its hidden behind the air filter base and will leak eventually after vibration and chemical degradation.

Michigan. In Fall the gas tank is emptied so water doesn't condense in a layer on the bottom of the tank. In Spring, if it won't fire up after gas fill and oil level check and 3 seasons in a cold shaded garage, I leave it in direct sun for minimum 1/2 hour to soften lube contacts and put some vapor in the carb. Starts right up. May not work for everyone, or every model, but it's worked fine for Craftsman and Deere for the last 30 years.

Wouldn't believed it! How it even ran, is my freaking mind blowing observation! Luckily the 10 mm nuts where contained in breather box. Install the bulb and bolted it back together and ran like a top. Cheap spindle design on trimmer head was my reason I trash it. It got wet and no way to oil it. It would froze up on me, three times. 3 times in a row! Alot has changed since my training on small engines of the late 70's and early 80's. I recently seen a Honda small engine disassemble. I love the golf tee idea. I like Donnyboy. I also watch Steve's Small Engine Saloon. Used to watch Taryl Fixes It All. Last one is odd but he does fix small engine stuff too. You earned yourself a new subscriber.

Guitar players save your strings ! The thin ones anyway. Works great for cleaning. It was nice to see her do what I do.

You can buy music wire from music shops of course but also at hobby shops and hobby lobby in the scale model section. Also many hardware stores carry it K&S Metals is the most common brand.

I'm a guitar tech and I use old guitar strings on lots of other things that have small holes that get plugged up.They are great for feeding wire into small spaces.

I always wondered if the contempt of mechanic charge was a real thing and this video confirms that it is indeed real.
