I love Renoir. He was great and he painted for love, makes his paintings so much more compelling and delicious to look at them.

I love the capsulized art critiques on this channel. You say so much in a short amount of time. Two easy ways to identify a Renoir: 1) It's joyous. 2) It looks polka dotted from the glittering light.

Also to the way that Renoir paints, using colors like yellow, orange, pink and blue, another way to recognize a painting by Renoir, it's looks soft even with lots of brushworks. That because when Renoir was a teenager, he was starting to paint porcelain.

I definitely get a sense of confidence from the foremost male: direct gaze, a bit of cool contrapposto, a gesturing of his hand that you can almost tell accompany some smooth words... I don't blame the young lady for blushing and looking away - I would too. I don't know if I prefer Renoir's approach to Monet's, but I'm appreciating them both more as I continue learning. Cot's "Springtime" was beautiful, too. I do wonder what the story was there.

I think that is right on target regarding the man's posture.

Perhaps the child is patiently waiting for them to finish their flirtations and move on so she can use the swing.

I think the man up against the tree is with the young woman/girl on the swing whether it's his daughter or wife...and his young daughter is wondering what is happening....a strange man has taken an interest in the mother/sister on the swing. Just my opinion! 😎

Did Renoir ever paint more than one of each painting?

That's what I came here to find out, because at the Portland Museum of Art in Maine, they have a Renoir near the door and it's of this painting, but it has a white dog up close to the bottom right foreground. Doesn't look like Renoir painted the dog. Lol

He is not my favorite artist. Much of his work is to sugar coated for me. To many rosy cheeks in his paintings. But this video helps me appreciate him a little more.

It's true, there are a lot of rosy cheeks but then again take a look at Portrait of Mademoiselle Legrand. It's been 147 years and to this day no one has outdone this work by Renoir. Any artist that was smart wouldn't even try.
