Javier Mercedes the recordings were distorted. I purchased a Rode NT2 mike to test the device but I think the Rodecaster had a factory defect or I received a previously used and broken piece of equipment. When I receive the box from Amazon, the product box was torn and the Rodecaster Pro appeared to had been used before. I received a refund but it cost me $70 in shipping!

that is unfortunate, I have one myself I just got to start testing, from what I’ve heard it has had great reviews, but the h6 is a very reliable and versatile piece of gear that I still use almost every day.

Javier Mercedes I purchased a rodecaster pro in order to record phone calls for my podcast. It seems as if I could’ve just use my zoom H6 as you have described. Do you know if there’s a difference in the recording quality from recording phone calls with the rodecaster versus the zoom? The levels on my rcp were quite low for the phone calls. Thanks for such a great review!

After searching for the answer I needed, your video has answered what I was needing. My question myself for this exact setup, “How does the person on the phone hear me talking to them since the H6 is for inputs only and has no way to output back to the phone?” I had a feeling that it was through the phone’s speaker but you are the only video, from the one’s I found, that specifically stated that is how. Thank you for the help.
@JavierMercedes

There are ways of sending the h6 signal back to the phone but they require more complex setup in which you would need more dongles and splitters. this way is simple and can get the job done if all you need is for the other person to hear through the phones mic.

This is a very thoughtful tutorial and you even explained that the audio your caller is hearing is from your phone microphone, anyway to take this a step further so the end user can hear external microphone input? I have tried a couple trs and trrs adapters and they don't seem to work. Almost all videos on youtube just reference using external wired mics with camera apps. Anyone who could answer this question for me would be my hero for day.

Great video. Very well done. Just to add to it if I may. If you don't have another microphone, don't buy one; the Zoom H4n mic is great for using in this style. All you need to do is use the 4CH Mode like Javier suggested, but run the audio out from the phone into input 1 using a 1/4" headphone adapter. This allows you to use the H4n mic input for your voice and omits the necessity to have a 2nd microphone. It's really handy if you do a lot of podcasts on the road.

It works with the H5 too. You end up with two files - one for the caller and one for the announcer. They are labeled TR1 (track 1) and TLR (track left/right). It would be nice to not have to merge them in post. Does Zoom allow them to record as one file? The end result sounds nice, but I think the Rode Procaster would simplify it. Too bad they're back-ordered now.

This is not a mix minus setup, it’s just recording the sound coming out of your phone Into your recorder. The sound the person on the other side is coming from the mic on the phone not the mic in front of me.

@@JavierMercedes Many thanks for a simple up-to-date video that explains something I have been googling for the last 10 days day and night. So when you take the audio from the phone that doesn't disable the phone mic? I dunno why all the fuss about mix minus if the other person can still hear me through the phone's mic which will do the job for a short interview. Last question, I suppose zoom h5 will work fine with this method? Thanks
