If you saw my last video comparing the sound of the sm57 and my Royer r10 ribbon mic, you know that I love recording with my microphones to get the cleanest sound possible. However at the beginning of the pandemic I was recording on a Shure mv88 which is a USB mic that plugs into my phone. I really like the convenience of this option and it sounds pretty great on everything from solo trumpet to brass quintet. If you don't have access to a mic and interface or a USB mic then your best bet for recording is going to be your cell phone. Hopefully this video will help you set up the best possible angle for your recording device and clear up any misconceptions about the Do's and Don'ts of how to record trumpet. Let me know if you have any questions!
