I have tried several devices, inlcuding an iPhone XR, a Nikon point & shot camera, and SoloShot. The SoloShot works with a 'tag' so it is supposed to follow the player wearing the tag. It kinda works, sometimes. Would be really helpful if you did another video looking at different software or Apps. I subscribe to Swing Vision. Great idea but hard to aim. I love the way it edits out all the down time. But sometimes it cuts off your service toss motion, which I am really interested in seeing. It also uses a ton of memory. I have a hard tome using it on my phone. I think there is a way for me to record using SoloShot and them download into Swing Vision, but I have not gotten that far along yet.

A question if choosing the action camera and mount; how to assure the court is captured in the frame?

The fence mount seems best for point recording but very limited in terms of analysis of your technique, you can not have a side view of your backhand or forehand or even a less common but useful front view, the tripod seems much better for that.., so ideally you would need a fence mount for matches and a tripod to analyze and work on your technique.. what do you guys think?

I need it all and more 😂 Just recently starting playing tennis and got myself a second pair of shoes already. Still deciding on what racket to buy but I already decided I need two rackets at least. Now started to check how to film myself from the back of the court and here we are, finding your suggestion the perfect option 😂

I have really big storage problems on smartphone any tips?

I’d buy cloud storage, get a phone with bigger storage or get a GoPro/equivalent with a big storage card. Can also record in lower quality to save space (4k takes a ton of space for example). GL!

Any suggestions for the smart phone and mount applied to indoor courts with tarps, no fence to mount?

What’s been very annoying for me is that when I use the wide angle lens built in the iPhone I can see the whole area in the near side behind the baseline but the far side court action looks so small. Is there a way to solve this problem?

Can’t record for more than 15-20 mins on DSLR cameras….

You can, I have! Depends on the model. Others may record it all but save in 15m increments then you can combine in post. GoPro and equivalents also won’t have issues with that nor will a smartphone.

I use my cell iphone 10 With a gorilla mount $18 from Amazon hooked to the fence. The only problem is the lack of a true wide angle. Sometimes I can’t see myself returning serve on the side, closest to the camera, if I’m standing wide, or a few feet behind the baseline to start.

Another tip is to record below the base line. 1:34 is filming the ceiling and cutting the feet. With better angle you can see the player and dont miss a thing from the sky

I have the action 3 and recorded a tennis match indoors in 4K 60 fps. I downloaded it to my phone afterwards and the resolution stinks. It is caused by the indoor lighting? Any setting recommendations.

Don't you think the wider lens angle on the action cameras make the game look/feel slower? The smartphone's "1x" cameras are equivalent to ~26mm focal lenght, while the action cameras are more like ultra wides, ~18mm focal lenght. Currently I use my smartphone (Xiaomi Mi9)+gorilla pod to record. Also have a good tripod, a Sony A6400+Sigma 18-50mm lens+Viltrox 23mm fixed lens (both APS-C lenses, so around 27mm on the widest point of the 18mm aps-c) . Never really recorded matches with the A6400, as I'd choke myself to death if a ball destroyed the camera/lenses. 🤣🤣🤣

Since I have a Nikon that can take videos and a tripod because I take a lot of photos, that's what I use. I've taken videos a few times and it's very helpful to see what you're actually doing when playing.

I've found that it is difficult to keep the tennis mount stable, it often moves around just due to the uneven weight distribution of the clamp.

Totally useless blabbery. The title says 'HOW to record' and this is a lie, is should have been 'what equipment you need for recording'
