#shorts
After I got this result, and was really upset, I took a deep breath and reminded myself that messing up something like this isn't the end of the world, and that I am capable of getting results like this in the future, even if it takes a while.
I wanted to make this video after I got my 5.96+2 square-1 single, but I didn't know how to accurately express what I wanted to show. This clock single gives a good representation
My advice is this:
1. Allow yourself to be mad in the moment
*This allows you to release your frustration and not keep it bottled up. However, when releasing your anger, don't overdo it. Try to keep yourself under control. In the moment, I wanted to flip my chair over, but I restrained myself.
2. Step away for a moment and remind yourself it's okay, and that you have other opportunities.
*This scramble was extremely easy. After re-trying the scramble, I got a low-4, which would have easily been official PB and probably would have been overall PB. This DNF was tragic, but afterwards, I reminded myself that clock sometimes has some wild scrambles, and the odds of me getting another scramble like this aren't that low. This applies to other events too.
3. Try to have a positive attitude
*It's perfectly okay and reasonable to show others that you are upset, because you have every right to be. However, absolutely do not let your anger out on anyone. Take a deep breath and try to think positive. In this case, I thought about all the other good results I had today (even if only 1 was a PR), and how I was satisfied with how the competition went as a whole. Try to find things to be happy about in times of anger or sadness.
This video is not an attempt to discredit those who are sad, mad, upset, etc. at any other results, as they are completely allowed to. What I aimed to do was to give an example of how someone can recover from a "fail," and keep yourself from drowning in negativity.
Is this video going to instantly help everyone? Definitely not. However, that's not why I made the video. I made this to show others that you can overcome bad mindsets and bad results. Don't let one bad result, a bad average, or even an entire bad competition corrupt your positivity. Allow yourself to be mad, but then pick yourself up with positivity and prepare for the future. You got this!
