@@jacobg6528 because cars don't just run out of freon for no reason, there is a leak somewhere, and just refilling it doesn't fix the problem. I appreciate this guy for making a video, and he did it right according to the can, but the cans shouldn't be a thing. Proper procedure is to find and fix the leak, then do a full evac, leakdown test, then refill with the proper weight of freon. I'm not dogging the guy in the video, just the product itself. Guys. He never once said he recommends anybody to do this. Simply, hey this is how to use those AC bottles. He has a business to protect. Obviously he didn't recommend the customer doing this. He most likely told the customer, "I'll do this for you but i won't guarantee it'll fix your problem."

It was pretty low so possibly. They use coolant as a sealant so yes, every single car leaks coolant at the compressor just tiny amount. If you have to do this more than every few years then yea you have a leak that needs to be fixed.

This is what you DON'T do. If your ac aint working, or isn't cooling well, take it to a professional that has the proper equipment and machines to figure out the issue. Most shops, even national shops like Firestone, charge nothing or up to 20$ and most will tell you you can do the work yourself and bring it back for a recharge at no cost. Those cans of freon aren't actually full of freon.

@@semperfimechanic might have worked then, but it's going to leak and fail again. You say you're a mobile mechanic, but thats not the proper way to repair things. That's not the proper way to fix an ac system. You need to figure out why it needed charged. It obviously leaked...and it's going to leak again. AC needs to be done by a shop that has proper machines to Evac and Recharge and that can properly inject dye, not from a can off the shelf at the parts store. As I've said before, been doing this a long time. And I've seen thousands of times people using these diy ac cans and overfilling systems and destroying ac components. And that ain't cheap to do. You can't vent the freon to the atmosphere either, it's against the law. It has to be vacuumed down by a professional. And no, those cheap vacuum pumps don't work properly and should not be used for AC. I've had to replace so many compressors and condensers and expansion valves and driers and hoses because of people doing this. I get you want to get paid, but some things like this need to be sent to the pros at a shop. AC stuff is ungodly expensive to replace. I just had to replace my compressor and expansion valve and condenser and it was a grand for the parts with my discount.

You are correct, proper way is to recover what's there, look for any obvious leaks by old dye, add dye and charge by weight. Ship it and notify the customer its got a leak and to come back when it stops functioning if no leak found at time of charge. BUT Dumping 12oz in isn't going to hurt it, just as long as its not overcharged. And it doesn't make him a hack by doing that.
