I hand polished and sanded my lips and I’d say they came out pretty great. Finished with a 1500 grit in straight movements and unless you get right up to it it still looks like a machine cut. Also was basically free, just time consuming.

After a refurbish what you use for cleaning? Car wash soap? What is safe to use

You should wait as long as you can for the paint to harden. I would say about 4 weeks. After that I wipe down my wheels after every single drive with waterless wash. Link in my bio to the one I use. If you want to wash the sonax wheel cleaner is an excellent product to use when washing. It helps a lot if you have brake pads that produce a lot of dust. Another more gentle product would be the Eagle 1 wheel cleaner too.

SoCal, I'm getting ready to embark on a refinishing project (found a shop with a CNC - unfortunately they don't paint). Please tell me if I've got this correct, as it's going to involve 2 shops - 1 - machine lips to remove any rash & imperfections 2- mask the lips and shoot front and back with 744 Silver 3 - remove the masking and clear-coat entire front face with High Gloss Thanks

A competent wheel refinish shop can do it all. My local shop did the machining and painting. I would try to avoid 2 different shops unless you personally know the people who are doing the work.

@@SoCal210 I'd love to be able to do that, but there just doesn't appear to be many places doing wheel refinishing up here in the PNW. Plenty of machine shops, although only a few with a CNC of 20"+. I'll probably do it over the winter, since I prefer to keep it garaged during rainy season Love the channel though -a 210 Bible!

Would a badly curb-rashed lip be repaired by getting machined? Seems like it might remove 1/4" from the lip

I am currently talking to a shop to do my Monoblocks. They said that clear coat comes in different degrees of gloss. So, something like matt, half-gloss or full-gloss. I understand from your video that the factory finish is not matt. The clear coat on my wheels is pretty dull, gloss is difficult to see. What do you think?

Clear coat dulls down over time on the wheels. A brand new monoblock from Mercedes would be a full gloss finish.

@@SoCal210 Thanks. That would be my preference. Will look great with the machined rim and new paint.
