The Netherlands is about the most expensive country to own a car. NL is the only country that has BPM. An extra tax payed when buying a car. It's actually cheaper these days to import cars from Germany to NL than to buy a car in NL and pay all the stupid taxes which are way too high! Also road tax in NL is calculated by the weight of the vehicle while in the rest of europe it's calculated by engine size. Also fuel is so extremely expensive, also because of the super high fuel tax.... I can only drive a small light car because I can't effort the roadtax for a bigger car...

@@LockieandAsh Yes, definitely come down to Morocco. If you surf, it's a great place to do that. Also the culture is pretty amazing. And the landscapes and the people and the food. Loads of vans head down normally (not sure now with Covid). Anyways I plan to go down this winter. So your plates are officially called "tourist plates"? Thats amazing. According to wikipedia the MT stands for Matrícula Temporal... or temporary plate. Most countries have this sort of temporary plate & getting them is not so difficult. I just imagined that you'd get more hassle from police, especially roaming around aimlessly, as one tends to do in a camper. Then again we've never had an issues with police. Only once when the grey water was open and we were parked near downtown Madrid. How about renewing your plates? Do you need to go back each year? Where are you guys now? I'm down in the SW corner of Hungary near a great little town called Pecs, living with my girlfriend and our dog. There is an awesome lake nearby called Orfu. I just saw on your blog that not too long ago you all were in Austria. Cheers!

Sounds amazing! Hopefully we make it there one day! Well that’s what they are but they are called MT plates? So I guess it’s a temporary plate for tourists that can be renewed. We don’t have much trouble with police, sometimes they are curious as to what our plates are etc as they are very uncommon but it’s never an issue and doesn’t happen too often. You can go back and renew or arrange it from a far via post etc well that’s what we have found anyway. We are currently in Norway! Sounds like you are at a great spot so enjoy 😊

Once you import the car to Andorra, Andorra refund you whole amount of the VAT or Germany ? And therefore once you have your car registered in Andorra, you only pay 4.5% vat?

I would like to do the same as you, but with a motorhome of 7m, and only 3 months for every 7 or 8 in Europe, I am not sure can find space to keep the motorhome in Andorra for months, but I know there are deposits in France and Spain that I can keep it, but with MT plate of Andorra I do not know if I can keep it more than 6 months outside Andorra. Im a US citizen from California. Looking to ship my Calif plated 2019 Sprinter diesel 4x4 van to Europe. Ive been getting insurance quotes for €800/m with only €75k coverage. Looking to get full coverage at a reasonable price. Andorra seams like a option. I believe my van has equal Euro 6 class emissions. It is a Left hand drive. The van is in near perfect shape. The US address on reg seams good. National Number of Identification seams easy. ITV should not be a issue. My concerns are: 1. Will Andorra register a US vehicle? 2. Not sure what US form is needed for import fees? Insurance for €600/y how much did it cover?

You already have a vehicle that is registered somewhere and what you would need to do in order to drive it in Europe as a temporary import, which is exactly what the author of the video did with their Andorran (therefore non EU) played vehicle. Whatever standards are legal where you're from are good while in "transit" in the EU. You cannot do the Andorra thing because your vehicle isn't EU complaint - nor does it need to be.
