I bought an old M2 stock from J&G sales for my M1 Carbine to replace the plastic stock on it. It’s old, dried out, and super dark. It’s sat for a long time without any oil on it. I’m going to try this on it, I bought the stock for $30 so if it doesn’t clean up to well it’s no loss to me, I have no knowledge of woodworking so videos like yours has helped me build enough confidence to try it

I also use the ultra-fine scouring pad; I also use 0000 steel wool. I seal the end of the buttstock too never understood why manufacturers didn't do this. Maybe so it could breathe, just seems like it would pull in moisture through there right?

You have to think of a piece of wood, and it's grain, like its thousands of tiny straws. Sealing the end grain (the straws) seems like common sense to me.
