10:52 the point of that scene wasn't to show that tails is a super genius that can crwate chaos emeralds, it's to show that sonic, like shadow, can use a small amount of chaos powers without the help of an emerald. The only thing the fake emerald did was trick electronics into thinking it's a chaos emerald and make the ark malfunction.

Only thing I’d add is in the story section, the Biolizard should be hinted at just a tiny bit more. Outside of the easy-to-miss newspaper towards the end of the dark story, he comes completely out of nowhere and makes the finale a bit anticlimactic in my opinion. Just a little more buildup would go a long way. Also, this is obvious, but fix the Homing Attack collision in the FinalHazard fight.

There were a lot of cuts to the cutscenes in SA2. The fact that Rouge saw that newspaper once and we didn't, and then she shows it to Shadow in the scene you're talking about for a single frame, says that that was supposed to have been a far bigger deal. That newspaper is HEAVILY detailed with obscene amounts of information on Project Shadow (it's largely the chronology of the development of the Biolizard: how its growth damaged its body, how it became dangerous over the time and scared people, how he was moved and how he functions with Chaos drives... obscenely detailed)--and we can only see it for like *one frame.* Considering that it was not just a foreshadowing of the Biolizard but also a massive character moment for Shadow that he doesn't seem to really feel anything for (and thus neither does the audience), serious mistakes were made in the handling of that scene.

That final quick time event for bio-lizard reminds me a lot of Kirby quick time events so I’m going to expand on that. What if after that quick event the bio-lizard sends an even more powerful laser that the player now needs to spam all of the buttons (A,B,X, & Y) and halfway through the laser becomes MORE powerful and Sonic Joins in. Now the player not only has to spam all of the buttons but now has to Spin the left Joystick as well. All the while the camera’s direction showing if Sonic and Shadow or the bio-lizard are currently doing better and telling the player if they are about to die.

As someone who considers sonicadventure2 their favorite game of all time, I like a lot of your ideas and if I would have had my own: 1. For the secret ending, maybe show and explain HOW Shadow survived his fall 2. Maybe instead of giving Shadow similar power up to Sonic, maybe give him permanent power-ups I allowed to tap into his chaos powers

The game answers why Shadow died and Sonic didn’t in it’s dialogue during the Final Hazard. Sonic says that Shadow is losing a lot of power too fast due to not being used to his Super Form. Makes sense why Sonic didn’t have this problem, since he’s gone Super canonically at least 3 times before this battle

Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Unleashed are my favorite games in the series, but the former can benefits form improvements in a remake. Changes I would make are improving the graphics, cutscenes, script, audio mixing, the controls, and button mapping (obviously). Change the emerald radar to track all three emeralds but increase the number of emeralds to be collected to maintain the challenge. Tweak some story cutscenes to make more sense. Make the boss fights better. Include supersonic & shadow as an unlockable character. Improve the rail grinding. Enhance stages like Final Chase, White Forrest, Green Forrest, and Crazy Gadget to make them better. Improve the Lightning shield. Fix the lock on for the mech gameplay. Those are the things I would like to see an Adventure 2 remake. Also, I would be interested in what you think a Sonic Adventure 3 should be like. Should it continue in what Adventure 2 did, return to Adventure 1's style, or be a hybrid of the styles?

Honestly you should do a one with 06. Ik Project 06 exist but 06 from the start was supposed to be this massive ambitious project that no sonic game even to this day couldn’t reach. It would break boundaries, push stuff to the limits in terms of gameplay, story telling, content, music, and more.

I would want a remake just for expanded chao stuff. Though iffy about reaching an end through just speed stages. You’d be casually finishing each campaign under an hour. New levels, bosses, or Acts reusing assets but playing with mechanics and level design more would be rad.

Mostly agree (except for the quick time events again) though I always liked the idea that Shadow failed where Sonic didn't because Shadow had never used a super form before, while Sonic did at least 3 times prior. Shadow definitely needed the SAME number of stages that sonic had (about 6) I would also for the final true ending have some sort of subtle nod to the original scrapped idea that Sonic was indeed the original ultimate life-form and that shadow is LITERALLY his copy.

These ideas sound like a good update without losing what makes SA2 great. That said, Sonic still needs to use Chaos Control with the fake Emerald and it can't be obvious to Eggman that they have a defective Emerald. Sonic being able to Chaos Control is crucial to Shadow learning he wasn't so above everyone else; Amy did the real damage by reminding him of the real Maria, but Sonic keeping pace with him started this realization and Sonic always defying expectation is his "arc" in SA2. The Emerald can have some kind of dangerous flaw to better establish why we never see more of them, but maybe uncontrolled energy bursts or something to tie into how it will bust the Eclipse Cannon and compound just how unexpected it is that Sonic Chaos Controlled with such an item...But that has to be on the down-low when they get to the Ark so that Eggman is still smart to guess their Emerald is fake (otherwise, using Sonic and Tails' trick against them has no surprise).

Bring the guilty gear team to model and animate the cutscenes with toon shading style that emulates Yuji Uekawa illustrations!! it would fit the original tone very well and still be appealing to new audience. Also hiring the sonic prime cast would also work for a remake!

One thing I would do is fix Amy, so that she's actually useful and not whiny or dull-witted. In fact, I'd change the ARK scene, so that Tails goes to distract the colony's security forces, and Amy is the one communicating with Sonic as he makes his way to the cannon control center. Here's how I'd write that scene: Amy: "Alright, Sonic! Now all you have to, is put that emerald... what the...?!"

How did he know?!" Robotnik: "Little did you realize that my surveillance equipment picked up energy readings from two separate sources. No doubt you intended to sabotage my plans, while making me think I'd won." Sonic: "I don't believe it! He saw right through our plan all along!" Robotnik: "Now, let's take you for a little space ride, Sonic. Once the capsule clears the colony, BAM! HAHAHAHA!" Sonic: "I'm counting on you, Tails. And Amy... take care of yourself." Sonic: "Hey... what's with this thing, all of a sudden?" Robotnik: "Farewell, Sonic, my admirable adversary!" Amy: "Sonic! NO!" This is going to be really biased from a Shadow fan. But there is no reason why Shadow has the least amount of stages in SA2 with only 4. Like you said before it would be cool if he got a stage of him escaping the military base. But I think another cool one would be him going to steal a chaos emerald. Another cool one would be if we play as Shadow in the past, and maybe he has to run and find Maria because he hears the military is coming. This is a game where the story is pretty much centered around Shadow I think he deserves more stages.

Shadow has the least amount of stages because of development time. Shadow, Rogue, and Tails weren't planned to be playable and Sky Rail was going to be another Sonic stage. But I agree for the remake, Shadow should have two more levels to match the number of Sonic's.

Back again. Show a mysterious gem in a dark cave hinting at the story of SA3? Gotcha. Also thought it through on the true ending plus, probably just gonna make it so that getting the true ending should be enough to unlock super sonic. Restructuring the stories to make them play as their own campaigns is hard but not impossible. SA1 radar on hunting stages is a no brainer. Better half pipe physics? Easy. Less dash panels? I dig it. Fix the button mapping? Consider it done. Un-clunk the clunky mechs, fix mech level design, and increase mech lock on radius. Doable without a doubt! And I hadn't even thought about adventure 2's battle mode! So I might totally have something akin to the battle mode in my sa3 game, but that shouldn't keep me from investing time into remaking the battle mode in 2, since my spin on it in the third game wouldn't quite be one to one. But I so very much would have the stages and characters from sa1&2 accessible in my sa3 multiplayer mode, since they all would be in the same package anyway. Also extra phases on the final boss fight after playing all playable character's stories is still a go. Not as much said, not as much to respond to, still a lot this video has enlightened me on though. Also might actually consider linking the chao gardens between sa1 and sa2, and possibly making them available to the third game as well, with the third game adding its own unique chao garden(s) to the mix.

The fix to this cutscene is to just redo the localization to be closer to the japanese original(No cutoff and better voicedirection). Weird how that works. Besides the issue of Meteor herd breaking suspence, but one just needs to relocate it to when it happens chronologically. Mods actually did it in the original, proving that it is largely effortless.

For the fake emerald an easy explanation is that tails found a shard of the master emerald to power it and then knuckles takes it back at the end.

I would actually expand upon the emerald radar even further and have a radar scope. You know, the thing that has a center point and a rotating stick which shows objects on the radar. Hell I would even add a map feature to the game so you can know where you've been.

I really like this video! Please don't forget that SA2s story wasn't supposed to be chopped up into three parts. (Hero/Dark/Final) I think there's a PC mod that repairs the story as it was intended to be viewed. Also, imperfect Localization. Also, If you have read this far, thank you! I'm really digging the overall concepts and points you are making about the story. However, the Shadow and Sonic confusion thing is actually quite understandable in retrospect. Given the fact Sonic and friends are not originally from Earth and are from Mobius, and so you see- the citizens of Earth have ever only known one type of Hedgehog that can go super-fast like how Shadow was. Also, they know Sonic can change his appearance hence Super Sonic. So theoretically it's easy to see why Shadow was mistaken for Sonic, because most people would have just thought it was Sonic in another form. As for his friends being confused, that would be understandable too, because as far as they all knew- Sonic was the only Hedgehog around with them on Earth. So, it doesn't matter if they caught Shadow on camera or not, logically it would be expected for them to point the blame at Sonic, because the fact he is simply the only super speedy Hedgehog that they know on Earth. And it didn't help the fact that in the story, G.U.N. fully knew that Sonic wasn't at fault, and they were trying to cover up Shadow's existence. So coupled with all that it actually makes perfect sense that everyone confused Shadow for Sonic. Even though they have many differences.

As someone's who's played SA2 with Japanese audio in the past: the overlapping lines seem to just be a product of the English script not having been adjusted to match the cutscene timing, thus the English lines very often run longer than their Japanese counterparts.

Yes. At least 95% of the issues talked about(even outside overlapping) come from the dub. There are only like 2 times the japanese audiotrack has an issue, compared to it happening every second line in the dub.(Heck, the ports even introduced one or two additional errors dubside)

Some differences I would make: 1. Hero and Dark stories are no more, and instead you get access the stage select map even in Adventure mode with Hero and Dark teams represented by their respective stage icon's having a Blue or Red outline respectively. Stages are unlocked in chronological order of when they occur in the story, with only Sonic's and Shadow's being required for story progression and the others all being counted as bonus stages that you need to do to get full story context and unlock the full ending. For the normal ending, you do not play through Cannon's Core and instead skip straight to Shadow's Biolizard fight. You only get context for why Shadow is helping if you've completed the other character's stories to unlock Cannon's Core, which is required to complete to trigger the full ending after re-fighting the Biolizard. When on the stage select map, pressing the "confirm" button (X on a Playstation controller, A on an Xbox controller, etc.) on a stage icon brings up stage info such as which character is playable within it, when it occurs in the story, the stage name, etc. You are able to then confirm you want to play the stage with another "confirm" press, or you can back out with the "cancel" button (Circle, B, etc.). Cutscenes only play if you access a stage through Adventure mode. Because you have access to the map in Adventure Mode, chapter select is removed. 2. Sonic does not obtain the Magic Hands. They're weird, dumb, and when you figure out how to use them they're kinda overpowered. They're not required for progression at any point anyway so just remove them and replace the unlock item for it with a shield or 1-up or something. Controls that previously shared buttons such as somersault and lightspeed dash can be manually rebinded to use different buttons, however sections in which you would need to use one or the other are also more strictly scripted to simply not allow you to use the one that spot isn't meant for. For example, if there's a line of rings and you're pressing the button you obviously don't want to somersault, so as long as the lightspeed dash is possible you simply can't somersault. This way those who want them to be on separate buttons can still have that, but it's also more convenient for those who prefer the original control scheme. Knuckles and Rouge do not have the Adventure 1 radar by default, but can find it rather easily as an upgrade in their respective first levels. Character upgrades can also be toggled on and off individually in the pause menu, so those who find it and do not want to use it can simply disable it. 3. Characters are more talkative, commenting on things around them or just voicing their general thoughts during gameplay as they navigate through the stages. 4. After completing the story and viewing the full ending, you unlock the ability to replay stages as other characters of the same type. In speed stages you can play as Sonic, Shadow, Amy, and Metal Sonic. In treasure hunting stages you can play as Knuckles, Rouge, Tikal, and Chaos. In mech stages you can play as Tails, Eggman, Chao, and Dark Chao. Characters not native to a stage have nothing to say about it as they progress through it. 5. The chao gardens from SA1 are removed from the collection in favor of the SA2 gardens. The areas that used to be chao gardens are still accessible in SA1, but instead of them being gardens you can go to them to play Chao minigames such as the races, karate, and several new minigames. They also have teleporters that bring you to SA2's Chao world. Exiting from the Chao world will bring you back to the "garden" you were in previously in SA1. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Gamma, Big, and Tikal always count as "Hero" characters, and so taking care of Chao will make them into Heroes while abusing them will lead them towards Dark. Shadow, Rouge, Eggman, and Metal Sonic always count as "Dark" characters. Taking care of Chao will lead them towards Dark while abusing them will make them Heroic. Chaos is a special case, possessing the unique ability to restore Chao back to neutral when taking care of them, and being incapable of abusing them. If you change your mind about a Chao's orientation or make a mistake, you can use Chaos to undo your progress towards Hero or Dark, and even De-evolve Chao back to their neutral forms if they've already become Hero Chao or Dark Chao. Beware however that this will also sap away their stats and animal upgrades. All of this information would need to be made clear in-game while in the chao world so that players don't get confused why doing the same things as different characters is having different effects on their Chao.

Honestly, SA2 wouldn't need a lot changed. It would just need - More polish - QoL improvements like the controls being mapped to more than two buttons and the Radar showing more than one Emerald Shard at a time - Online functionality - Better presentation But other than that, SA2 doesn't need much lot else. (Also, for both games, this would be the start of a total recast. So for the voice actors... There ya go.)

My biggest complaint with SA2 is that it feels like a sequel only in Sonic and Knuckles stages. I thought the open hub was a great step forward and you could ‘game’ the levels more. It felt like mirroring the teams between each other was not as cool as playing each character in their own way even if some sucked. Maybe it was the age and the 1st 3D Sonic game I experienced but man I just wanted it to build on SA1 not change it and just keep Sonics stages and Chao. I don’t think you could really do SA2 like SA1 though in a remake. Otherwise you are literally reimagining the game to make it more like 1. All I’d ask is that they offer a bit more open opportunities in the levels and god do the sound right. SA2 to me looked at SA1 and it’s approach to 3D Sonic and said nah let’s do something else and that literally led the course forward for 3D Sonic…..until 06 buried it 4 years later

In the dialogue of the final fight it implies that shadows body can’t really handle the super form well which is why he was exhausted at the end but sonic was fine but it gets head cannony on why that’s the case

Most likely because Sonic has used the super form many times before and had time to adjust to it. Notably, it is Sonic who is warning Shadow about the danger of "Your body will be destroyed". People say Sonic shouldn't be a saturday morning cartoon, but also want literally everything to be spelled out for them. Or in some cases that is not even enough like with the Amy-thing in the video.

The info provided about the fake emerald sounds great…except…. I don’t think the fake emerald should malfunction during the Sonic “death” scene. Sonic using chaos control by himself impresses Shadow and leads him to believe that Sonic maybe is up to his level. That Sonic is more powerful than expected. This is why Shadow calls him the true ultimate lifeform during the final boss fight. Sonic impressing Shadow adds to their dynamic later on in the story, so while I think the backstory and the recontextualizing of the fake emerald is great, the malfunction in the “death” cutscene will take away from the character growth of Shadow.

@@rayyanfarooqi2167 alright look, I like him as orbot, but for shadow it's clear for not my favorite in my opinion just because I find it him very decent, I wouldn't say that he's the worst shadow like people said that. He might be old cause he's 67 years old, so I didn't like his shadow voice to begin with until forces he's very good at least it's better because of the voice acting.

With the rail grinding, making you switch with the sticks would mess up the rail system. You use the sticks to balance on the rails. Putting the switch button right there would mess things up. You should fail switch with LB and RB As for the fake emerald, having sonic teleport around randomly and him being teleported from the capsule due to that would ruins things in the story such as Shadows character. Shadow found out that Sonic teleported from death with tenacity and skill which allowed Shadow to respect Sonic as a character The current voice cast being in the adventure series would make tons of people mad 💀. They should just reuse the audio from the original games and fix the audio mixing I also wish you talked about character customization, but this was still a good video and I’d like to see your take on how you’d make SA3

I disagree, the radar MUST be random this game was made to be finished and replayed many times if the emerald locations were always the same it wouldn't be any different after all SEARCHING is the fun part. A better radar its the best can be done to that gameplay style

Honestly i agree with your inputs on the remakes in what you wanna do and Also too i heavily agree on adding the treasure rader from SA1 to SA2 it would make life so much easiser. Also i like how you pointed out that we could also play ShadowRouge and Eggman to the Hub worlds in SA1 im also thinking maybe for SA2 remake hypothetically i feel we could also unlock the option to play as Amy in Sonic's stages for SA2 as a cool reward for getting all S ranks in every stage as well!

6:09 More people should try the retranslated story mod, it uses the original japanese script, which not only makes dialogue more better and gives more information (For example, Eggman knew about Shadow before the events of the game) and the characters don't cut eachother off. And you should start using SA2 Render Fix, the footage looks like crap with the Battle version dark tinting in the models (And cutscene revamp too, it fixes every Battle related issue and makes the audio much better).

Personally, an SA2 remake should just be the OG game, but we have some QoL changes (Light Speed Dash on Y, SA1 rader), a better script that accuratly reflects the JP script better, and KH3 level graphics/

I could go on and on and on about SA2's Treasure Hunting and why its radar is not an issue and there are a lot of other things to be taken in consideration that I think are far more relevant, but I'm not into writing huge texts right now. What I will say is that specifically for cutscenes I think you should have point out the complete lack of explanation of Maria's disease, the reason for the creation of the Ultimate Life Form, these are info only explained in the strategy guide and manuals. Also, Biolizard having a full description on Rouge's report texture file but it's basically impossible to read unless you pause the scene while she shows the paper and Rouge's report of the Project Shadow investigation that is also not present in the actual game. @@amandaslough125 I'm glad that I already have a prepared text for that, since you asked, here it is. SA2's Treasure Hunting is heavily designed around the hint system, and it test the player's knowledge of the stage structure by being able to receive indications of things to look out for. You're not just searching for the Emerald/Key and playing hot and cold, you're searching for objects related to a certain area and the areas itself, the game heavily emphasises the genuine "exploration" aspect, taking the element of memorizing a stage into something more approachable since areas are easily distinguishable from each other and even named. The thing is, the reason the radar works that way in vanilla is to have a more objective gameplay as opposed to just "randomly running around", the hints will give a direction to what the player should search and go for to find THAT treasure as fast as possible, making so the Rank system works as stablished, the stage itself being a playground to traverse and engage with your knowledge, there is this thought people have like "If It were the radar from SA1 I could have collected that piece right away", the challenge of this game style is not the act of collecting the emerald of that area, instead is how you traverse through the areas as fast as possible based on how well you explore and understand the stage structure. There is also an element of Decision Making, you can either not use hints and take longer to find the piece or use some hints and find much quicker, which is why the radar precision was lowered to three levels to begin with, because I believe developers wanted players to rely less on the radar and actually explore the surroundings and keep engaged with the clues that will help leading you to the piece like an actual Treasure Hunt, the more engaged the player is with these mechanics, the faster it will beat. The biggest issue is that, when the radar is beeping players tend to completely forget about the hints and start focusing solely on the radar instead of exploring the surroundings, this was such a big of a problem that in SA2 Battle they had to put an exclamation mark to show where to dig because players were simply forgetting about the hints, you're supposed to either take some time to figure out where to dig or check the hints in which will give a direct indication on where you should dig, risking taking longer but getting higher technique points or use hints to find it faster while lowering the technique points. I'm giving that high emphasis on the hints system because it really does make a difference (especially after making the Retranslated Hints mod), sometimes I just enter in someone's random stream playing SA2 casually and when I tell them to grab the hints and keep looking for what they are saying it the game suddenly changes and they manage to beat those stages way faster, there are so many players that just ignore the hints, apparently because: -They thought those monitors only give Omochao-like-obvious explanations because that's how it is in SA1. -They don't even know those monitors were giving hints at all. -They actually grabbed the first hint (which can be very vague), didn't understand what it was saying and assumed they were all useless and never once touched those monitors for the rest of the ENTIRE GAME. -Keep insisting like "I can't get A-Rank if I use them" (which is not true) and force themselves to not use them at all. It really annoys me how SA2 in general doesn't explain its mechanics clearly and are mostly up to the player to discover by itself, Treasure Hunting being the most negatively affected due to its exploration-nature. If you search for the Dreamcast Prima's Official Strategy Guide, which apparently they got assisted directly from Sonic Team at the time, you can see how the guide heavily emphasises using the hints, because it is indeed a very important element of Treasure Hunting, yet most people on the internet just treat like a side-thing or just an "extra" to help new players and never give the attention it should. I have never once thought of the limited radar as a change made to "artificially increase playtime" or "because SA1 stages were too short." Rechecking every single area three times can only occur if the player deliberately decides to not use hints and try to risk locating without it, which will mostly result in taking longer, but it also depends on how well you do your decision making, I can say for sure at least 80% of players overestimate themselves and really insist in not using the hints despite taking like +10 minutes to beat the stage, which at that point the value of collecting without using hints is the same as finding much quicker while using them. In that way you can see each of the emerald pieces not as three scattered objects to find at once, but as three "sections" where you have different directions and things to search for, If the game indicates the emerald of another section before the player is actually in said section, then the hints of that section will be heavily devaluated since the player already know where to go and it will result in a very unbalanced technique points system distribution for each emerald collected. I don't vibe that much with the idea of even be able to see/grab the emerald of another section as it is in vanilla, I think developers just let it that way since it wouldn't "make sense" to an emerald to just appear suddenly. But for speedrunning purposes I can definitely see the appeal for players that go beyond just memorizing the stage but also memorizing piece locations and get rewarded with faster time, but the problem is that casual players that aren't really looking for that will most of the time just see a free piece accidentally and be like "ok... why wasn't the radar beeping? this is bullshit" and they'll think this playstyle is all lucky-dependent. The biggest issue in the first place is that Treasure Hunting is constantly getting in the way of other playstyles, it's not an issue if the player already knows how every playstyle works, but for new players they will CERTAINLY have issue since this exploration-based designed requires a completely different thought process from the player compared to the linear hallway design from Action Race and Shooting. SA2 is a game clearly focused around replaying, it's kind of like as if you receive a paper and a pen and you're just expected to do something interesting with it somehow, as if you have nothing else to do; back then I think it wasn't such a huge issue since games weren't so accessible, either you play that one game you got from your parents or you don't play anything, Nowadays if you aren't enjoying a game in first-hand you just go play another one, or just have fun with the infinite amount of content easily available in the internet. In other exploration games, players don't tend to care in how long they take to beat a stage or collect something, for example, the time players take to get the first star in Super Mario 64 can vary a lot, yet I have never seen anyone be all like "I'm stuck in this level for more than 5 minutes! This is garbage!", the only thing that matters is just collecting that star, but when a Sonic game tries to do a similar thing, it suddenly becomes a problem due to the speed factor, players are constantly looking forward to beat stage quickly so when they see they are taking more than 10 minutes in a stage, they will start to get annoyed and possibly blaming the game. The only way I can imagine to properly make players understand vanilla would be to have a linear tutorial stage explaining in-depth its mechanics, instead of just throwing the player in an open area with an Omochao telling the objective and expecting players to be having fun somehow. The skill curve is pretty complicated to be executed properly, in vanilla you either have the player having to do a research to understand it or just simplify it so the player can beat the stage faster, which won't really make the player actually learn the intended idea, which is the issue I have with SA1 radar, it doesn't really improve the intended design, it just simplifies so players can just "move around randomly" and beat the stage quickly, which makes so many people instantly believe that SA1 radar fixes SA2's treasure hunting when it doesn't, it just essentially changes to something else.

Easy, make the treasure hunting and mech stages fun for one. Easily some of the most boring gameplay in the mainline series, it's 2/3 of the game and it's pretty bad, the only truly great levels are the hedgehog ones.

Quick Time Events would Ruin the Game! The only good ideas you had were giving Shadow an Extra Stage, racing on Sonic Adventure 1 Stages & unlockable characters. Also can we give Rouge an Air Necklace? Sonic Adventure 2 Battle still holds up as 1 of the best games in the series after 2 Decades. Also to be fair Adventure 1 Radar had Blue, then Green, Yellow, Pink, & Red in addition to hunting all 3 at once.
