Thank you SO much--my garburator has seized, and getting rid of it entirely certainly is the simplest and most cost effective option.

No point to put putty over gaskets. I assume the gaskets are to prevent leaks in the future. The bracket looked very crooked, and will shift over time. I wonder how long it will stay water tight. Especially with vibrations from countertop appliances and dishwasher.

When you installed the new drain, you put the plumber putty on top of the rubber gasket and paper gasket. That rubber and paper gasket actually gets installed under the sink and only the putty should be on top between the new drain and the sink.

The gaskets that you left on the fitting are supposed to go underneath the sink. Your plumbers putty fortunately worked for now but you will develop a leak in the future.

My parents had an Insinkerator disposal since the 60's, replaced it in the early 80's with a new, higher-end quiet model as part of a kitchen remodel, and never had the problems you suggest are endemic to disposals. They had 10 kids and the disposal got a lot of use every day; I can recall one or two times that we had to deal with a stuck grinding wheel. I've had a Kitchen-Aid model for 9 years (manufactured by Insinkerator), and have had none of those issues either. I guess we actually read and follow the directions, and buy good machines.

Excellent. Thank you so much. I’m 66 in a condo they want 1350 to remove the one I have. Absurd ! Especially now that I saw your great video. Thanks for taking the time to make that. However. My dishwater clogged at the same time. Will removing the GD , then allow the DW to finish draining ? It seems like is the GD was clogging my sink, that removing it would take care of everything ? If you know of another video to explain that please leave me the link. Thank yous SOOO MUCH

Just a question. My sink is plumbed like it was in the kitchen you worked in. There is a plastic value that screws onto the pipe at the top of the sink, on one end of the pea trap and the other is connected to the garburator. My sink plugged up so I tried to remove the p trap. I couldn't just remove the pea trap connection because there was no screw valve on the other end of the pea trap. When I removed the screw valve at the top of the sink and the garburator the pipes are too tight to remove. I don't want to be too rough or it may crack the plastic pipes. I need to remove the pea trap because I can feel 2 pieces of plastic cutlery in it. How do I remove the pipes by the p trap without having to call a plumber to cut the pipe? When I looked at other videos there are screw valves on both ends of the p trap so is this plumbing acceptable because you can't remove the p trap? I'd appreciate your feedback.

I am not sure but when you slide the piping up to connect the final elbow to horizontal section is there a chance that the vertical drain from the sink is now blocking the drain from the dishwasher inside the piping? The vertical piece from the sink was quite long.

Have you actually done this before or did you just happen to record yourself doing it for the first time ever. Putting putty on the gaskets that are supposed to be under the sink is wild. Also, sawing off a piece of pipe while rocking and grasping the drain pipe of the other sink, wow. If that wasn't bad enough, leaving that huge bur on the cut piece of abs and then smashing the collar on there and no extra twist. To top things off folks, putting abs cement ON THE UPC STICKER AND NOT REMOVING IT before joinint the two pieces together. What in the world did i just watch????

Garbage disposals are wonderful things. You won't have any of the problems you mentioned if you use it correctly. And yes, it is "proper" disposal.

Disposals used to be fairly cheap. Now, the cheapest one, with a contractor discount, is around $100. They used to have a 5-year warranty, now is 1-year. My disposal broke 3 weeks after the warranty expired, so just replacing with a strainer. It was incredibly rusty for only 1-year old. Also, apparently, they are intended/designed to only dispose of small amounts of food waste.

Why is the screw holding the drain on an angle? Drain sealing also installed improperly. Did not deburr his saw cuts, forced joints together. Please, consult a plumber before making a video. Let’s teach best practices.
