Just spoke to a mechanic at Bass pro in Macon GA just about this issue. He told me to pull thermostat , supply motor with water crank it up with the housing off and flush it out. He really stressed leaving the housing off. He said about 30 to 60 seconds would be fine..

The informative videos you do are awesome. You've inspired me to do the same. Although I'll probably just be doing again in a few weeks. At least by then tho, I'll be a pro at it. Keep it up.

My son and I just bought an ‘18 Heritage a few weeks back and we’re like kids at Christmas. Above all others your videos have taught me so much about boats in general and the Heritage specifically (we almost pulled the trigger on a new Classic XL). Thank you for the time and effort you put into your vids whether about the boat or your fishing adventures. I hope you’re able to benefit financially for your efforts. One last thing, haven’t you done a video on the Merc vesselview? I can’t find it. Either way, many thanks

It makes one wonder why manufacturers don't put some sort of fine screen filter in the cooling system, along the idea of a quick change filter like on a clothes dryer. Also, wouldn't it have bee advantageous to somehow flush your engine while you had the thermostat out?

at what temperature does the thermostat open on a mercury engine, I started the engine, the water was 30 degrees Celsius, it ran for 15 seconds, the water didn't come out of the back, I heard a knock, I turned it off, I started it again, the water didn't come out again I heard a knock, I turned it off, I left it for a while, the temperature rose to 50g. celsius and the water started to come out and it works perfectly, I don't know what happened, I looked at the second start, a little smoke came out from the front to the stern, then it worked perfectly.

Why do you need to change these? Is this recommended maintenance or did the motor run hot and alarm didn't go off? Thx

Question I was trolling around last Sunday for about 45 minutes cut the motor off for 20 tried to start it back up and it would crank but not turn over. Battery is good and the mercury beeped at me but after about an hour of sitting it started could this be the issue?
@MarkBlackstock

Not sure? If it’s cranking I’d look at the fuel system
