My 78yo mother asked me to replace her 2012 CTS AWD Coupe’s battery today and was impressed when I said “I don’t know how to do it, but I know who does” and searched for it in KZitem, where you were the first hit. She made me promise to “thank that nice man on KZitem” ;-) Nice work.

Tell her I said you a very welcome!!!, but also great job to you because you changed the battery yourself. No matter the age, you can always learn I do many many things yourself! Great job!

@@FixCarYourself I tried without looking it up, and once I finally found the battery, that positive battery terminal connector stumped me - amazing how service-unfriendly cars have become. Even just changing a headlight bulb on this car requires a surprising amount of work

Agreed, you have no idea how many problems I have to figure out on a daily basis. It will only get harder as cars get tighter from a component point of view. But even worse, software locked components will eventually make things harder and pricer to for the average do it yourselfer to do.

Very good video with great clarity. Your instructions were given and a good pace and did not seem to be rushed. I noticed that when you moved and "locked" the clamping lever on the positive terminal, you did not push it down to the bottom of the slot and to the left into the short horizontal segment of the slot. That horizontal portion is what actually provides the locking of the clamp in place. It will prevent the lever from moving. If left in the vertical portion, it's possible that the clamp can work loose over time. My 2011 CTS Coupe has the same basic setup for the battery. I inadvertently neglected to push the lever into the horizontal locking slot and sure enough, my wife was out with the car and the engine would not turn over as the cable, although in place on the terminal post, was no longer tight to the post. Lesson learned.

I would put down some cloth or cardboard to prevent the battery acid/corrosion from contaminating trunk.

That's the beauty about these batteries being in the trunk and protected from the outside elements as opposed to the batteries in the hood area, which don't get as corroded. However, some backing soda and vinegar or a cleaning solution wouldn't hurt. And its always good to vacuum up afterwards.

Excellent video; thanks! I've heard that on some cars the car's computer needs to be adjusted to show it has a new battery versus an old battery or it will not charge the new battery correctly. Do you know if that is true on a 2014 caddy cts?

I haven't heard that and in this case seems unlikely to me. However, Cadillac's software system is not the best (which they do on purpose so you take it to a stealership to pay for programming). Anyway, I've had problems with the oxygen sensor before as well as with the windows not working to name a few, if the battery was not disconnected or a memory reset was not performed. So again I wouldn't be surprised.

do you have to reprogram the key fob??

I don't think it was necessary for this specific vehicle. But it doesn't hurt. Check out the end of the video as I show how to do that.
