Michael, first off thank you for the invite. I had no idea you had such an extensive presence on the Internet. Secondly, this is brilliant and the perfect first video for me personally. I deal with duckweed in my tanks nearly 7 days a week, one day one tank and the next day another. The expansive growth of duckweed in my healthy aquariums is such that by the end of a week and I’ve completed the circuit of my tanks, the first is again in need of attention. And despite that, I was thinking I do pretty well in culling the duckweed. I was highly skeptical at the start of this video and shouldn’t have been. I’ve seen your wall of tanks previously. You don’t get to that degree of organizational success in the fish-keeping hobby without being a “MacGyver” style thinker. The screen technique I have say is both simple and along with that brilliant! We just don’t always relate this means of sorting things by size to living things. That’s the “MacGyver” aspect. But you knew that and thus the video! 😄 For those around the world that are unfamiliar with my term “MacGyver”. This is referring to a long running television character in the United States. “Angus `Mac' MacGyver has an extraordinary knack for unconventional problem solving and an extensive bank of scientific knowledge.” The word “MacGyver” has taken on a life and meaning of its own. And now refers to anyone that problem solves and overcomes with just what common items are available to them.

Thanks a lot for your kind feedback, Papa grande. Glad to hear I helped you out in your ongoing struggle with the duckweed. I am honored to be compared to the very resourceful Angus MacGyver. Cheers, Michael 🙂

While watching this video i was only wondering "how is his redroot floater not looking sickly?" lol. Mine in one of my 5 gallons has weird colouration and die off and is slightly submerged in water. Only place it seems to do well is high light and no water agitation for me. But nice video, I did almost anihilate duckweed by picking it out but a fully grown mat of amazon frogbit will kill/slow down almost any plant in existence when it hits 2-3 layers of height 🤣

Haha yes there are many ways to fight duckweed :0) Red Root Floaters like peace and quiet and lots of light and nutrition. Cheers, Michael :0)

nice tip! just discovered your channel and I felt in love with nano fishes you presented in your channel. Do you think there is a killfish or a little rainbowfish that could fit in a 30L tank populated by shrimps? Unfortunately in my other tanks I breed fancy goldfishes and I don't have space for new tanks.

Thanks a lot, Ion. Right off the bat, I can think of three species, that will be relatively shrimp safe - they won't hurt adult shrimps, but maybe snack a few baby shrimps occasionally. still I have had growing colonies of Red Cherry Shrimps together with these fish. One is epiplatys annulatus or Clown Killi. The second is the Red Beon Blue Eye. Check out my film right here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/x5CCloaEkomqhYY And the small Normann's Lampeye is my third contender. Here are a film of these small killifish living peacefully with a colony of Red Cherry Shrimps: kzitem.info/news/bejne/poGEtq5uqIGiaZw Hope that helps you make your choise. Cheers, Michael 🙂

Hello Michael! I know it's been a few months since you've posted this, and you might not respond, but I wanted to inquire as to where you got this metal net? I'm from Denmark as well, and I am struggling with a duckweed infestation after I took in a few plants to nurse to better health from my younger nephew! Thank you in advance!
