Great video, shows what a pain it is to demo tile floors. When possible I like to use a primer and go over the old tile. I tap each tile to make sure it's bonded, chip out the ones that aren't well adhered and then self level the voids created by the missing tiles I remove. If you're tiling just use a 1/2"x1/2"x1/2" trowel and leveling clips and you have a solid floor on top of the previous. Or if it's vinyl plank/laminate, just pour self leveling on top. Now, this won't work if you would have issues with the floor height changing, but I don't regret saving my back! Keep on rolling and I'll see you at 1k subscribers!

Thanks man! True, in most cases trying to tile on top of old won’t work with the adjacent flooring or even worse, won’t work well in a bathroom around the toilet area, or at doorways. Thanks for watching! Did you like the sped up video instead of just cutting out a bunch of the work? Did it help to see the video speed %?

@@craftsmanconnection Yes, I don't have issues with toilets being too low, as there are flange adapters or wax kits that fill it, but adjacent flooring is the biggest reason not to pour over. So, the sped up video was nice and the percentage it was sped up could be useful, but I think a timer would be more helpful in a comparison between techniques. I personally don't know how to do that though... Lol. There are things I think up and then never bother looking into with videography/editing. A lot of times I will speed my video up 3000-8,000% because I start to get bored! However, the benefit of a slower speed is that people can skip forward when they get tired of it, it shows more details, and you can use the filler to meet the KZitem preferences on video lengths. I don't mind long videos though because I skip forward through most of what I watch and according to analytics, everyone else does too. Videos like ours usually keep people for about 2-4 minutes, so different angles, fast pace and good information help keep attention. One thing I would recommend is going to canva.com and using the KZitem thumbnail maker and creating better/eye-catching thumbnails. It's like when you're looking for a book/movie to read/watch. The cover can pull you in, or completely disinterest you (even though it might really be what you're looking for). A lot of views come from that split second decision that a thumbnail plays heavily into. I'm not very good at it, but I'm trying to create thumbnails that don't look like the site I built in 2001 from HTML, lol.

I was curious about your business as I am 3 doors down from where your truck and trailer are parked on Glenco Terrace. Great work. I may need you on a bath that we may be renovating if our current sales contract places that role in our court! Great work! I've done it myself many times.

Hi Dwayne, yes I was at a clients house I have done some historical remodel work for in the past, and now he wants me to remodel the bathroom. You should be aware this is not a private message area, but a community comment area. Do you have my phone number?

Maybe invest in some volleyball knee pads. Made my old lady knees hurt just watching. The demolition of the tiles remind me of those cleaning videos. It’s oddly satisfying to watch!

Later on in the video, I put on my hockey goalie style tile installer knee pads. It’s a set that cost over $200 but distribute the weight between the knee and the shin, and take the weight off of your toes. Just keep watching past a few minutes someday 😂

Good video. I'm ready to tackle my entire house. I was thinking I wouldn't need a grinder, instead just use the hammer drill and use a 5" blade to chip away at the thinset. Probably less dust as well. What are your thoughts?
@craftsmanconnection

Jackson, you can do it without the grinder. My grinder has a dust shroud hooked up to a shop vac, so if you don’t have those items, I’d do it without the grinder. On the flip side, some concrete slab are so slick, the mortar doesn’t stick as well long term and really just make sure you key in the thin-set mortar well to give yourself the best chance. I cover this with my tile guy in the first few minutes in the tile install video on my channel for this very same house.

The hand held tool that used to remove the beginning tiles
@craftsmanconnection

The dark blue electric tool, is a Bosch chipping hammer, or some say demolition hammer. I have not seen it in the tool rental department, but I could wrong. The Bosch demolition hammer, depending on model, can cost around $179-$199, and thinner tile chipping blade is 2” or 2-1/2” wide, and the wider thin blade for thinset mortar removal is around 5” wide and the cost is somewhere around $50 (on sale), and I might have paid $79-$89 when I bought a second one at regular price. It should be in the Home Depot tool department. It’s definitely worth the cost, and one of my favorite tools. If you try to do the same work by hand, you’ll really hate the work.

Why you stop using the trolley?
@craftsmanconnection
Жыл бұрын
Why did I stop using the big breaker on the stand with wheels? 1. It’s really only good for big floor spaces. 2. It’s heavy, and I had to lift it to change the angle to a more effective angle. I probably could have adjusted the angle of the tool dolly itself. 3. To show viewers an alternative method with a cheaper tool, that is very effective, especially in spaces up against walls and around cabinets.
