I was worried about replacing my high-end older oasis with this one kzitem.infoUgkxCgPI5O2AtmcHq9SJhgsCGbpAzJAJfrJp but it is surprisingly light and the screen resolution is just as good. I never had the warm light on my old kindle, but i do not use it on the ipad so I will probably not need it. I think the only thing I'll miss is the self-adjusting light, but this is so worth it!

Works just tried. updated to newest version of fire OS before this and it still works. i used my PC to get the files. moved them onto a micro sd card put that card into my fire and used es file manager to install. i also used windows Powershell and used .\adb instead of adb and windows command prompt. i will stay posted if there is any ads after tonight. Thanks for the walkthrough. Edit: ads came back in the morning. Did not work.

At the date of making my comment here, the process worked with some minor issues. 1. In case your PC does not "see" your Fire Kindle, i.e. the Fire does not show up under Device Manager list under the USB, then may need to install kindle fire drivers. Do that first and reboot computer. 2. Before or just after opening the Command window, double-click i.e. open the adb app in the folder downloaded from the google docs. This allows the PC to recognize the adb command. More specific, the PC shortcut common technique is opening the Command Window while inside the folder i.e. the folder with add app front and highlighted and then Shift-right click for opening. 3. As suggested by another commenter, use the line pm clear com.amazon.kindle.kso instead. This worked for me. Curious, even after an update in September 2017, I am still on version 5.4.0. But I am not complaining so long as I have no more (irrelevant) ads on the locked screen.

I emailed Amazon customer service. I told them my Fire 10 tablet was a gift (it was), that the ads were annoying and the ads were for apps I was not remotely interested in. I asked them to disable the special offers and waive the $20 fee for this long time customer. Received a reply a few hours later stating they were disabling the special offers "as you are a valued customer to Amazon" and they waived the fee. All I needed to do was toggle the tablet's wifi. This is not as sexy as the solution offered in the video, but one that I was more comfortable with. Also this direct approach may be an option for those that were not able to get the video solution to work.

Cool video bro. I knew in my mind that Amazon couldn’t just sell this HD 10 for so cheap. I thought it was because they sold the apps for so much (where Google and Apple are free), but after I got it I realized it was the ads. I think it’s funny that men like you figured out the work around to disable them. I just installed playstore and next I’m gonna Follow you’re instructions with the ads. This tablet is nicer than most other expensive ones on the market right now. I’m surly getting my monies worth now. I paid $25 off letgo! Laughing all the way to the bank! I just got customer service to remove it easily and I didn't even have to lie to do it either. Basically what I said was that I was having trouble with my Fire tablet, and the problems seem to be caused by the special offers. Basically the screen would sometimes take up to 30 seconds to unlock and the tablet would slow down in general drastically. The only thing that would fix this problem was powering off the tablet and back on, but this was only a temporary fix. The reason I believe the special offers are the cause is because powering off would clear the tablets Random Access Memory (RAM) of anything loaded in the background, like the special offers for example. Also mentioned that I did agree to the special offers when purchasing the tablet as part of the deal, but did not see any mention of performance being affected drastically by the offers in the fine print. That's literally all I had to say and the agent immediately unsubscribed me from the special offers. I mean really, this is 100% the truth so it's not even like anyone would be sort of cheating the system, which I know some people do with customer service but I don't think everyone would know how to spell it out to the agent the way that I did so I wanted to give people a blueprint that will help them to get rid of the ads, free of charge. Because seriously, the ads DO affect performance in a big way so frankly I don't think we should ever have to pay UNLESS they mention the ads affecting performance in the fine print of the agreement, and I don't think they do.

Confirmed for 5.6.0.0 you need the New command line "pm clear --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.kso". don't know if adds will return as I JUST rebooted after redoing ADB powershell with the new line. Also for anyone who gets Windows powershell from the shift+right click in the Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder window (which is not what you need) do a search on your computer for CMD.exe, Right click and choose "Run as Administrator" then click yes to allow it to run. This is the environment that Taylor is running in. From here type cd\ This will put you in the main drive of your computer. If you followed Taylor's directions and extracted to your desktop then you will need to type: cd Users/Administratorfolder/Desktop/Minimal ADB and Fastboot PLEASE remember the "Administratorfolder" part is actually your Account name/folder for the computer (usually the admin account if you own it) and UPPER and lower case DOES matter in the whole thing. After that the rest of the video should workout fine. UPDATE, I do not know if it is my weird luck or what but the ads kept coming back as soon as the screen went inactive, I found one last step that seems to have done it. Taylor's video shows to type exit twice to end cmd.exe and then shutdown/reboot the tablet, what I found however from an android developer site that showed how to do this on earlier Kindle models/OS was after the first exit from the ADB shell, when your back at the directory line type "ADB reboot" this will force the tablet to reboot through the ADB program instead of a manual shutdown/restart. After I did this the ads have so far stayed away even if I manually shut the screen off. After the reboot you can obviously then type exit one more time to close the CMD window. One last thing ADB.exe will Still be running in the background (which makes the folder impossible to remove or delete if you want to). To fix this open your task manager, go to the "Details" tab (which is the new name for the oldschool "Processes" tab on other Windows versions) find ADB.exe and end task.

@Sonevar

Unfortunately no, the ADB "clear" command only flushes the ads temporarily, they seem to come back at what I assume is when the tablet updates. In order to get rid of them permanently previous versions of this ADB method used the "uninstall" command to get rid of the ads package as well as other unwanted software packages, but for some reason, the "uninstall" command was removed or rendered non-functional in the newest version of ADB from what I could gather from the internet,

This is not the case with latest version of fireOS, the ads will back as soon as you plug your tablet back to main and leave it for 5 minutes. To resolve this I recommend after doing the above and before restarting make to have 'Noroot Firewall' installed (you can search how to install apks or google play). Then block every com.amazon package and make sure to have the app running every, sometimes it may closed by the system so do forget to open it from time to time within a 24 hour cycle. Hope this helps, of course this would not mean of help to Amazon but for people like me who are not interested in seeing these ads might be a great solution for now.

just a quick update . since i just got these things a few weeks ago your script above has not worked . and because im an asshole i ripped up the directory until i found what would also work instead of : pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.kso (wouldnt work) FAILURE! i tried : pm clear --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.kso worked like a CHARM! now i can also remove other packages (apps) i dont want on there taking up OS space.

TaylorTech I think the update made it impossible to uninstall that specific package because it kept saying :"user O did not install" So I was like fine! Other code from directory said "pm clear" to just remove. So I typed it in and it cleared both tablets of the ads. You can use it for any other packets as well but Google the script for each one so you know which ones not to remove . (Like the OS, unless you have another to boot on to it. )

Hopefully this comment is pinned. I just purchased the Fire tablet yesterday, received it today. $35 with my prime membership. Pumkin's script works.

Worked for me with pm clear --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.kso Thank you so much. I had to watch the video a couple of times. I would have made the cmd screeen a little bit bigger to help out users. But you did a great job. This is awesome. REally. As much money as Amazon makes with me and Prime... they don't need to shove bloatware down my throat.... thanks for this great hack!!!

So umm... It doesn't appear to be a permanent fix because after about an hour without ads they started showing up again. Can this be permanently fixed?

Worked for me just now. I have an 8th Gen Fire HD 8 running latest 6.3.something. I started out with the pm clear command and it said success. After rebooting, the ads were still there. I then tried the original command posted with pm uninstall and it returned success. Restarted and NO ADS. Restarted twice, and NO ADS. Will see how long it lasts.

Só I did this last night and it worked fine for me, even restarted the tablet to see if it would stay like that and it did, so I went to sleep and when I wake up this morning, the ads are back...

Are you sure there are no viruses or malware in the download for your computer? I'm always a little nervous about unknown links.
