Dude: you saved me about $250 by explaining how to remove deck and replace the drive belt. Took me the better part of a day, but it’s done, and it moves. Thanks!!!!!

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thanks for letting us see..lol. Any thoughts on why my new John Deere OE mower belt seems too long? It seems as loose as the original worn belt I removed . I have the D130, that has a cable adjustment bracket, which allowed me to tighten just a tad. That helped, on the old belt at first, but it seems I need more adjustment. The new OEM belt seems too loose from the get go. Both are OEM belts, but the original was black, the newer one is lighter looking Kevlar.. You think it is just a change in who makes them? Thanks again.

@@crowhaven200 when the belts are in the disengaged position they will look loose. As long as the blades are moving as they should when engage and the belt is in the correct position, all should be good. The tension is only spring loaded and there is no adjustment necessary.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Okay, thanks. I don't mow a lawn, I mow acres of weeds, lots of dry grass and twigs get up in the belts. I used to mow without the plastic safety covers that are over the pulleys because it didn't trap the debris so bad . But as the belt lot looser, (and the new belt) would fall off if I disengaged the blades while the deck was low, I had to be careful and lift the deck first. But I do a lot of lowering and raising while I am mowing over clumps and rough terrain. My hand is always on the lift lever. I know I need a bigger heavier machine, but this one has lasted 4 years. I put the safety covers back over the spindles. But only because they help hold the belt in place. I know no mechanic is going to be okay with me removing those covers, but it sure made things easier to keep clean. Thanks for the insight. I wish I had a lawn.. I mow lots of sand along with the weeds. It's just where I live and what I have to deal with.

The best instructional video I have ever seen.. I have watched thousands of videos on repair of appliances.. cars...electronics...mowers...lighting, video is clear and steady.. I can see everything you did just like I was standing there... so many guys will skip over the little things by explaining.. just like the clip fir the cable.. most guy would just say remove this clip... excellent job!

So like others I couldn't get the heavy blade engagement spring off the mower deck. Battled it for awhile and thought what I could do. Finally took a flat (bastard) metal file I got from HF years ago. Filed the end of the spring, didn't take much filing and I got it off. I worked on it from the left side of mower. Also removed a small silver spring which hold the pulley to file the spring end. That may not be necessary though. Thanks for video.

If it looks correct and the deck is leveled correctly, I would leave it alone. If it looks wrong, try the other hole but normally they are where they should be if the machine is new.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thanks. Seems close to that drive pulley to mess with no matter what.. need to go up about 1/4" in front to be level in the number 3 slot. Thing lets high spots and uncut pieces even just mildly turning steering.. checked pressures. Not happy with it for what I paid. Good video anyway!!!

So I have the same mower, is the bottom hole the correct hole for the deck linkage bar to go in!?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
Ай бұрын
It hard to say and not sure why all the holes. Some are different for different size mower decks. I try to look at the level of the deck and if it’s way off the front rod is in the wrong hole. I suggest putting it back in the hole it came from and 99% of the time it’s correct.

Not sure what you mean by other tension spring but if you look at the video again at the 4:31 to 4:37 time you will see the other spring that attaches to the blade engagement arm and it attaches to the mower deck. If this is the sparing you are talking about?
