Just completed replacing the fuel sender and had no issues. I’ve used KZitem to help me replace my brake pads, spark plugs plus draining transmission and antifreeze fluid and this was the best one stop tutorial I’ve seen. Thanks for the detailed instructions.

Thank you for sharing this repair. Our 2015 has been giving us grief for a year now. Finally yesterday the 'needle' was stuck below a half tank (on a full tank) and so I decided to fix it. For anyone else attempting this repair, here are the symptoms we saw, in case it helps: 1. occasionally the fuel gauge would read completely empty on a tank with fuel in it. The 'empty' light would also come on. 2. as mentioned above, the needle would read an incorrect level. 3. the check engine light would come on usually after filling the tank. 4. ODBII codes would indicate values are too high (or out of range) When I removed the pump/sender unit from the tank, I found the surface that the wiper rides on was very dark. I measured the sender unit, at one end of travel the resistance was 200ohms. About half way along the range, it would read 0 ohms - this reading would continue all the way to the other end of the travel. I cleaned the wiper contacts (gently!) with a small cotton swab (Q-tip) and some sensor cleaner (used for mass air-flow sensors). The underside of the wiper arm was also cleaned. When finished, the contact surface should be shiny. Warning - do not scrub/wipe the 'grey' areas around these contacts. These are the sealed resistors for the contacts - the sealing on these must not get damaged. After cleaning, the resistance range of the mechanism went from 200ohms at one end to 20ohms at the other. The repair also self-cleared the check engine light. Good luck!

I have a particularly annoying problem where my gas reading only gives me issues when the tank is FULL. Not half-full, not three-quarters full, not even ninety percent full, but actually full after putting gas in to the point where the station pump stops automatically. Car runs fine, absolutely no difference at all, gives accurate gas readings whenever it's not completely full. So thank you for this tutorial. That kind of eye-rolling annoyance really isn't worth paying mechanic prices for if it can be DIY'd this easily.

I hope there is a tech that can chime in , because I have heard this problem quite a bit. I have also had the issue where if the tank gets around 1/8 or less , the guage will not go back to full for several days. But if the tank never gets below 1/4 , it is fine. Definitely a weird issue . Thanks for the feedback.

Should it be the same on a 15’ cadenza?

Im not 100% if it is my fuel pump but am about to replace on my 2016. Lately my car has issues starting and dying while driving when the tank is at half or below half. Everything ive googled points to fuel pump but can anyone confirm that for me before i spend the money a new one and it not be the issue?

So i have a 2014 Base model. And mines started doing this yesterday. Only owned for a month or so no, and had no problem. But im in the middle of a move and decided i might as well fill it up. Filled it up and went to work later on last night and this happened at a red light. I have almost a 100K miles should i just replace the whole fuel pump

I would just replace the sending unit. Those oem pumps are really tough. Thanks for the question.

for a low mileage car , that's pretty bad for a sender to go bad ... at least it wasn't too difficult to replace it , and no spills ...👍✔

I was thinking the same thing , it is almost unheard of at such low miles. I had to rule out the gauge cluster and wire because I had my doubts. Cars damage was in the front also , not near the tank. Thank you as always for the feedback.

2016 Kia soul fuel need was under E with no gaslight on. replaced fuel pump that was bad by a Firestone. After 2 months the needle stopped working again. They replaced the fuel pump again and sender unit. Got it back and my whole car smelt like gasoline. Not even 2 days later it’s back at E. Sometimes it read the fuel and doesn’t. I have told them repeatedly that the car rpm goes up and down randomly like it wants to shut off. I don’t know what it is and am tired of them having my car.

I would first of all find a new shop . Lots of questions ; like did they use oem parts , was it handled properly during the install, wiring issues . Possible instrument cluster issue. There may be some software issue as well with these cars. After replacing the sender on mine , I had one time where the gauge stayed on empty, after a fill up, but then slowly climbed and corrected itself. Has not occured since . I would probably start by making sure there was a good oem sender and pump , and checking the wires and connectors. These cars do have instrument cluster issues as well. Thank you for the feedback.

They replaced the fuel pump twice and the sender unit once with an OEM part. I wish I could take it somewhere else but I had extended warranty on my vehicle and they replaced it all before it expired. I knew something wasn’t right after the first time I took it back and since I told them something was wrong and warranty was about to expire they written in words if it failed or something else went wrong with it they would fix it for free. 2 months later they kept their word so far as of warranty wise. They couldn’t duplicate it. I got the car back Wednesday and not even 10 minutes later I’m the fuel guard was acting weird after I put a full tank in. It’s slowly go down after the car turned off and get stuck around a little over 3/4 full for a second then go to empty. Did that a few times. Another time about 10 minutes after that I turned it on it started at full went to empty then back to full. All within a second. It happens when the weather is really hot too. I recorded all the videos of it because they couldn’t duplicate it. Now they are baffled. I did my own research and found out it can be the fuel line, high pressure fuel pump and camshaft follower. I am going to tell them what I found out, hopefully they listen.
