The way we did it is you start at one end with a pitchfork and get right under the tar paper and start lifting and rolling the shingles, usually it comes off in sheets and you can roll the sheets into big rolls. Pick up the rolls throw them into the bin

You can see the previous referred a crappy job because he didn’t peel off the plastic that allows the asphalt to heat up in the sun and melt onto the layer below it. I accept a lot of asphalt shingles for people to dump on my land for the purpose of recycling them for a profit and I noticed that no one peels that stuff off like they’re supposed to.

Best way I do it is start from the bottom shingle and pull it up forward you pull a chunk out keep doing it till the roof is clear then pull the nails out I find it less of a headache

I'm faster just pulling off shingles and stacking the whole roof then drop off into dump trailer, pop staples or nails, then peel felt or old underlayment, then clean up. Install afterwards. To each his own, but this just makes a mess and more to clean up at the end of the day.

All roofs are different. Old pine 6x1s with two layers is like pulling up super glued sandpaper. No full shingle coming off that roof

This is too messy of a way to do it. If you know how the shingles are installed then you will know how to tear them back off. Slow down and be neat about it and then you won't have near as much mess to clean up.

With a regular tear off spade I'd go down at a 45degree angle from a corner and once it's started , effortlessly pull a whole carpet of shingles,. Ducks foot sucks btw.. pitch forks how primitive,. 10 minutes in the Florida sun this guy would be in the E.R. 😆
