Using anything to fill the gaps in a stripped screw head: makes sense Using something to create pressure between the screw body and the hole that'd been stripped: another good thing to do Using a washer instead of a flat head tip for a drill or impact wrench: WTF?? They do make flat head tips.

@timwcronin

Advantage of a washer over a flathead tip: your contact point is centered in the screw. The tip needs to be completely flush within the slot on all three angles, otherwise the pressure gets off center because it's on one of the corners of the tip and slips off the screw. Two disadvantages of a washer: narrow spaces, and more likely to round the slot when higher torque is needed.
@sselesUneeuQ

@@timwcronin If you have a decently steady hand and a flat head tip for an impact wrench or drill, then you'll be just fucking fine. If you're too cheap for it, then get yourself a washer for this! :3 Edit: I forgot to mention, if you did get a flat head screw driver instead of a bit tip... you're fucked. Letting you know. “Spitted” is wrong in every way. It’s a stripped screw
@plindquist84
2 жыл бұрын
It's "spited", not "spitted". "Spited" works in the case, it means annoying, which these screws absolutely are. I mean, I saw the typo too, but if you're going to correct somebody, at least do it properly.

That 3rd screw wasn't broken just in case you didn't realize. Didn't need a washer. I know it's not common knowledge but that's something called a flat head screw.
