In this instructional video, I demonstrate how to remove the composite fiberglass tip (aka Comptip) from a Hobie mast. It's the same process for any Hobie Catamaran, be it a Hobie Wave, Hobie Getaway, Hobie 14, Hobie 16, Hobie 17, Hobie 18, or Hobie 20.
You just need some strong lines, a heavy duty ratchet strap, 2 very sturdy anchors (mature trees or 6x6 fence posts), a drill and punches to remove the mast tang rivets, and a rubber mallet to help separate the two sections of the mast. Some masts separate easier than others, just tighten the ratchet strap, bang on the mast with your rubber mallet, and repeat until the comptip is free.
