Finally someone who is honest about it. I have seen so many videos of people demonstrating this perfectly, but they are always using a jingle that was seemingly made specifically for the tutorial so of course it works flawlessly for them.

This whole video is an add. Funny enough the video is also monetized so you are pretty much just watching an add inside an add "Hey you know that thing that you can not do and other channels are lying about? Let me show you in an over 8 min video that yes it does not work but you should learn how to do it. It did not work? what a surprise... you know for $9.99 you can go ahead and do it with a professional app that can do it!" You are a freaking genius, C-Threep. Never clicking here again.

I’ve messed around with a lot of these programs and found that rx 7 removes the vocals the best. It’s all manual and it does the job pretty well. It’s not perfect, but it’s a lot cleaner and better sounding than most of these programs.

C-Threep, thank you for making a "real" tutorial. I've spent the last few hours trying to make a kary cd for a friend watching Audacity tutorials and have been spinning around in circles. I couldn't manage to get one song right much less a whole cd. It's a shame that flakes flood the ether with useless info that wastes people's time. I also liked the fact that you showed no hubris and referred all concerned to the proper way of navigating a programs built in knowledge base. Sign me out as having had enough smoke blown at me for one night. Keep keeping it real!

I knew already for the 2 "solutions" with audacity and how bad it was, and I already thought about what melodyne does, and I was wondering why no one was doing this (the decomposition by frequency and time), looks like someone is doing it, I hope we'll get a free equivalent of this someday ... nice video C-Threep, a subject that definitely needs to be cover and you talk about the main problem of audacity's solutions , good job.

I'll watch the video, but after the first minute, you're already saying that it doesn't work. In *my* experience, it *does* work, but *only works well on certain songs*. If you've removed lyrics from Come Sail Away by Styx, you'll already know that that's one of the instances where it works best. No, it doesn't completely remove the vocals, but it does a good enough job to use it for Karaoke. When you got around to the manual process, you very quickly screwed up. First, copy the entire stereo track and paste it below. Split the first to mono, not stereo. You took the long way around. After inverting one of the two halves of the split track, perform a low-pass on the track that's still intact for stereo. Don't perform "make stereo track". Not sure why that screws up the process, but I've had bad luck with doing that. After the process is complete, *it really does depend on the song as to how good the effect is*.

You know you could just equalize the audio and make it sound at least 80% better and remove vocals better, right? Not perfect but at least it doesn't make your audio sound like white noise.

I use Audacity for quite some time now but the effect option is disabled is 1, Probably you playing the track while going to the effect option, 2, pausing the audio while going to the effect page and it disables the fast forward and rewind buttons as well. Stop the audio, then go to the effect page.

before you invert the right track, select it and go to equalization, and set the 200hz bass all the way down starting at 100hz so you retain some of the bass that makes the audio retain its form. it still has a slightly worse feel, but you don't lose ALL of it. i would imagine if you set the teble high in the same form at about 400-500hz you could try to solve it completely, but I wouldn't be 100% sure until I tried it for myself

You sound like the man who can help me with my problem Decades ago, it was possible to buy cassette players that could play special cassettes that would allow you play around with the instrumental part, the vocal part, or both together. In other words, with the click of a switch, you could listen to only the music, or only the vocal, or both together. There was absolutely no mixing, not even one note. Now, I have to assume that the cassettes had one track for music, and one track for vocal, so you could listen to either track or both tracks together. Simple. Anyway, I still have many of those special cassettes that feature a type of music that I'd like to use for karaoke performances. Are there cassette player made today that would allow me to play those old cassettes? I'm definitely not technically inclined, so when someone tells me that I have to buy a 4-track player, I have no idea if he even understood my question. However, you seem like someone who can give me a clear and satisfactory answer. Incidentally, this was in Indonesia, but I have to assume that what I could buy in Indonesia was commonplace throughout the wold at that time.
@mediacreationsusa

A Cassette tape uses 4 tracks to record on - normally it's 2 tracks as stereo in each direction - you might have a 4 track tape that has all 4 tracks playing in the same direction - you can use a regular tape deck - just play the tape in both directions, and capture the audio. you will prob hear one side being played backwards, so just reverse that in post, and then you will have 4 tracks as it would have been played from the 4 track tape players of the time...

Why method 2 works: you inverted ONLY what's panned to the CENTER, meaning that, let's say there's a bass kick, where the speaker normally kicks out, it now kicks IN. But the OTHER track (non-inverted) is trying to kick the speaker OUTWARD at the same time, which cancels out the bass kick. Same for vocals, which are usually panned to center.
@jasonfella265
7 жыл бұрын
Kinda funny, but both of the examples the effect worked quite well. I've used the invert thing, too, and was quite happy with the results. It depends on what you want it for. I use it just to get rid of the vocals so I can hear more of what's going on with the guitars, and for that, this works quite well.

Is it possible to at least dim the lead vocal part and not the back-up part of an A Capella song? I'm not exactly trying to make a karaoke version of a certain song. Did this for a friend on a track from a studio in Africa. Worked perfect, but only because the mix was staightforward. I loaded it in Reaper. I panned hard right and hard left to remove the center, with that the vocals. The vocals were only in the middle along with the reverb vocals. Unfortunatly I removed the bass guitar too which was also centered. I loaded it again and put a lowpass (free ware..don't remember which) to just get the bass guitar which was important in the song and I didn't want to lose. These to I rendered together. Of course the bass had lost it's overtones,but it still sounded OK

Even if you manage to remove the entire vocal, it still does not work as you still know what they originally said (and are still 'saying', but merely via this different method of communication - and silence can sometimes say things, even more than words). Or else you think of 'worse' than they originally said. You've have to remove whole sentences, but even there it makes me think of what they might have said, so still doesn't work - it automatically brings a swearword to mind (as does my own use of the word "swearword" since you know what that concept means) as something they might have included - and I wouldn't want annoying long spaces of instrumental in any event.
