This is how Mr. Shoji taught me to repair the crack. Also, our viewer, Vanessa, sent me this excellent video by Mr. Marco Lienhard showing another way. kzitem.info/news/bejne/lGZ9yJV4gnd3oJgsi=TIoRDEYTRpjdLxT6

Really nice repair Miki Sensei! I would have never imagined that it could be possible to repair a shinobue. After the repair did it sound well or as good as before? Thank you for sharing this video it can be very helpful! And really nice Shiba Inu pictures 😄

Hi Gatchan! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! This shinobue sounds the same as before the repair... but I don't even know if the crack made a difference in the sound, to begin with... The crack happened about 2 years ago and when I saw the crack, I immediately freaked out and "felt" like it sounded terrible, but maybe it was just me LOL!!! When I play it now, it just sounds weird because my technique changed so much since then and I can't play this shinobue very well now that I am so used to playing Shoji shinobues. But still, I'm glad I repaired it because I was able to show everyone how to repair it and also hopefully it will keep this shinobue from cracking even more!

Nice repair tutorial! And very good information to know, it's always good in case something happens to your shinobue. And I can't believe Bunta sensei said just to wash out the mold from your shinobue. Did you use any soap? Thank you for sharing!

Yes, I couldn't believe it when Bunta sensei told me to wash it with water!!! 😨 And I ended up using a little bit of spray cleaner with bleach just to make sure the mold gets killed. And amazingly enough, I am still using that flute today, so I guess Bunta sensei was absolutely right!! 😮🤯🥰

For once, I am happy to live in a humid environment!

Hi Toothless! If you live in the US, you don't live in a humid environment since we all have central air. Most Japanese houses don't have central air so the humidity in the house is high. So your shinobues are in danger too!!! 😵
MS: curious-do you think the coating thickness effects the sound?

Thank you for commenting! Mr. Shoji told me that after coating his flutes, they lose the vibration slightly. That is BARE vs. coated. As far as thinly coated vs. thickly coated (like Shoji), Shoji sounds better than all of the other thinly coated shinobues I have. But I think that is because of Shoji's excellent STRUCTURE. So, it's hard to conclude how the coating affects the sound. 😟 Sorry!
