I love it when a garment is multi colored pattern. It's a challenge to see if I can weave the colors of the design back into it to match the pattern so u can never tell a hole was ever there. My grandmother had a darning egg and at night when she was “resting” she would darn the socks that had holes in them. She grew up in the Masonic Children’s home in Batesville, Ark. Someone there taught her this along with sewing, crocheting, cooking, maths, reading, geography, harvesting wheat, planting and harvesting rice fields, chickens, pigs, cows, and goats, etc! Necessity is the mother of invention. We know from cave wall drawings, and burials that weaving of grasses and sedge was common as far back as 18,000 years ago during the Upper Paleolithic (also known as the Old Stone Age which lasted from 50,000 to 12,000 BC). In certain parts of Peru, conditions were such that woven artifacts have been discovered, surviving from 11,000 years ago!

It’s not sad. Plenty of people learn to do this kind of stuff. 100-200 years ago there was not as wide a variety of crafts/ trades as there are now, and women were often confined and boxed into things like sewing, cleaning and cooking. Now we have a large variety of things to do and be good at. For instance, If I want to be a doctor, I’m not going to have time to learn things like this because I’m mastering other things. It’s a sign of progress, and there will always be people that are great at knitting, sewing, etc.

It’s called darning. Our grandmothers in the 1800-1900 knew this basic skill. It’s unfortunate so many of us didn’t learn these necessary skills since going “green” requires we recycle ♻️, repair, or repurpose our clothes. Just saying. ❤

Witchcraft. 🎵What is that voodoo that you do? Witchcraft.🎵 Don't know if it's true, but all I'm thinking is this person is an expert knitter and knows extremely well the type of knit, and as is evident, can fix any error or damage. LOVE IT!
