It's often the pipe diameter that is the limiting factor, not the pump, in determining gallons per hour of filtration. But you may have accounted for it

How did the motor get wet?

The motor was only wet on the outside. Probably from rain

I watched this video hoping to learn something relevant to repairing my clothes washer's timer, which might be responsible for an intermittent problem: The washer has 3 choices of cycle (regular, delicate, etc) and the final spin has been working only in the regular cycle. Recently the final spin often doesn't work in the regular cycle too. When the final spin doesn't work, the timer dial advances at high speed past the section labeled "Final Spin" in just a few seconds, as if it recognizes the final spin isn't working. I suspect dirty contacts in the timer or a loose connection somewhere. Regarding the pool timer in the video, couldn't the water-damaged motor be refurbished? And should something be done to prevent the new motor from being damaged by water?

I actually examined the motor and discovered the small plastic gear was stripped. It was not a water problem.
