Knotting between pearls is traditionally done to prevent losing the (expensive) pearls in case the necklace breaks, not to prevent the pearls from rubbing against each other. If your pearl necklace breaks, and there are knots between each pearl, you will at most lose one pearl (or none if you manage to find it). For this reason, using beads between your pearls is not a viable alternative to knotting the silk thread.

Thank you for another informative video lesson. My Grandmother gave me her pearl necklace when I got married in 1974. Wore it on my wedding day, and never wore it after that; because I was afraid the old necklace with break and pearls would go flying. I will try now and see if the threads are in good shape or restring them so that Grandmom's necklace can be worn again. :)

Cheers! I dropped a pearl bracelet and dented a pearl. There is no hole or chip but a dip where it made contact with my shoe. Kindly, can this be polished out or otherwise repaired?

I have some colored cultured pearls that have not been drilled, how can I use them in jewelry if they have no holes?

Maybe encase them in a metal/gold?

If you rub a real pearl gently across your front tooth it will feel gritty as opposed to a glass pearl which is smooth. It really works! Try it!
