I had blinking ceiling fan lights in my bedroom for months so I would not use the ceiling lights and depended instead on the table lamp next to the bed. I was about to call an electrician but I found this video and was able to repair the ceiling fan lights in a couple of minutes. I am so happy to finally have bright lighting in my bedroom. Thanks for posting this video!

I just scored a Hunter Adirondack ceiling fan from craigslist in almost new condition for only $25 with non-working lights. I just went through all the wiring and discovered the limiter was no longer functioning. I came here to make sure it was ok to bypass the limiter before doing it and your video showed me that it was indeed fine, just have to remember to keep the wattage of the bulbs under 40 watts each, which wont be an issue because I will be using LED's. To anyone looking for info about bypassing the wattage limiter on the Adirondack fan, the limiter is located above the fan's motor inside the main decorative shroud. It's not a 10 minute fix on this model as you pretty much have to pull it all apart, blades off and all, to get to the upper shroud screws in the top of the unit. Good luck and thanks for the video!
@dianemerz3498
8 жыл бұрын
+Neil Tackett I wish i had read your post before attempting bypass because our fan is the same model as yours.. We removed what we thought was the limiter from the light housing, but the lights still blinked, and the fan stopped working.Turned out what we removed was the capacitor. Now my husband is trying to put it back together. What a pain in the butt. Might just buy a new fan at this point. Should have filmed the entire fiasco, it would have been a good don't make this mistake video!

Thank you for this video. I was just about to jumper out this device and then I thought that I better do some research first and see what this thing is first. I understand the reason for Hunter putting in a current limiter. But, I will never put in higher wattage bulbs than 60 watts (which is what the fan came with). My fan lights are back in business and my wife is HAPPY!

Great video George! I did a quick search on the web and your video came right up. I had two different fans that had the lights start flashing non stop within a short period of each other. Initially they would eventually turn on solid and then after a while they just would flash forever. After watching your video I took both fans apart and removed the defective piece Hunter puts in there and just like you showed the lights started working perfectly. I wouldn't be surprised if Hunter put this cheap piece in there so people go out and buy another fan vs. taking the time to fix it.

well done sir ! thank you for giving your time to help others ! it fixed my light ! i hope you have a great day :) ,,, oh and btw this limiter is in place because of state laws in California . they had to many house fires involving people from other countries putting WAY to big lights in the fans , the manufactures found it to be cheaper to make all the fans to comply with the state laws v making fans 2 separate ways . at least that is what i was told when buying a fan from lowes . thanks again :)

Not sure if anybody else said this, But I think you can just disconnect the connectors and plug the bin. Just finished doing that with a harbor breeze fan with the same voltage limiter and I did it without cutting wires.
@jamesdavid2063

My dual Harbor Breeze fans have a light on top (1 pull chain), light kit below (2nd pull chain), and of course fan speed control. The wall switch (no remote) turns both on and I have the flickering. With all the wiring, there was no way I was going to remove the limiter and I had to carefully move the "guts" around to find it. Once found, snipped both white wires and connected them, then snipped the black and red and connected them and left the old unit inside since I'd have to remove and disconnect a lot of wires. I found no additional wires and works fine with my 13 watt CFL lights (soon to be LED). I figure there is no problem leaving the limiter inside if completely disconnected .... oh, no more flashing on either fan.

I just installed a Harbor Bay chain pull style fan, with 1 bulb. My wall switch is a Leviton rocker type switch, but also has a dimmer / slider in it. I'm noticing when I turn the switch on, the fan light does a slow strobe, until I move the switch slider up and down, or turn the switch off and on again. This happens every time. There is also a slight hum, the more I lower the dimmer slider, which slows the fan speed and dims the light. As far as connections between the fan and ceiling/house wires, I have all green grounds connected together, the blue and black from the fan connected to house black, and the house red capped off with no connection to it. Not sure if this is the problem, or if I should get rid of the dimmer switch, since I don't really care about being able to dim the light or adjust the fan speed aside from the 3 built in speeds.
