Thanks, Mr. Finn! My wife was going to take the Corolla down to the Toyota place for repair, but your video showed me how to easily find the broken coil and replace it. Your explanations made perfect sense, so I definitely learned something today. More than that, you saved me time and money! Thanks Again!

I have a question. I replaced the rubber boots that go over the spark plugs and the kit came with those little springs that contact the top of the plug. How do you remove/replace those? I tried unscrewing them, but they just spin freely in there. I'd like to try replacing the springs before I buy new coils. Thanks!

I saw the same video. Mine have 4 prongs as well. I tested them in the same manner. For instance: 1&2,1&3,1&4 2&3,2&4 3&4 All coils gave basically same readings. But i didn't realize when the coils are disconnected I was only testing for resistance. Turned out to be bad coil. Replaced it and all 4 spark plugs. Ran great for a day, now its worse. Good luck!

Hi I went to autozone to do a check engine light test and they told me that there is a misfire in ignition coil 4. I followed this video on the instructions and replaced the ignition coil to my furthest left (which I assume is ignition coil 4). My check engine light is still there even though I replaced the old ignition coil with the new one. Did I replace the wrong one? The car runs fine, but I am just curious if I did it correctly.

Peter, I had codes P0352 and P0354 on my 2010 Corolla. All Spark plugs, boots, and cylinder 4 coil pack are new. The codes reappeared with a slight shake that is not constant. Dealership tried to sell me an "intake cleaning" for $250, which I declined. Before I pay someone is there something else to check? If I disconnect each coil you see RPM loss, so I feel like I'm chasing a ghost. Thanks!

Mr Peter. I copied u after I watched this video clip. we have exactly same cars. I take first coil wire plug off. Then turn on engine, it failed totally . Then i did one after another with same result. The engine only be able to turn on with plug in all 4 coils. Base on my experiment, don't u think I have bad coil pack?

You may have 2 coils out. Buy one new coil. Measure RPM with original coils. According to this video 1 coil out =1050 rpm and 2 coils out =950 RPM. Mark 1,2,3,4 on old coil tops with marker. Replace coil 1 with new one and see if revs go up. If so, coil 1 bad. If not, coil 1 good so replace coil 2 with 1 and see if revs go up. If so coil 2 bad. If not, 2 is good so replace coil 3 with 2. Repeat with 3 into 4. If you find a bad one (example coil 2) and the engine is goes from 950 rpm to 1050 rpm and is still rough, get a second new coil and swap out the remaining coils (3 then 4 in this example). If no change with coil swap out, it is another problem and save coil 4 as spare.

Hello Peter, is this test reliable enough? What about different behaviour of coils under other circumstances, i.e. faulty coil appears to be OK on idle RPM and faulty under the load ? I do have a problem with my 2007 Corolla 1.4VVTI. It seems to have power lag between 2000-3000 rpm and then it gets power kick and accelerates linear as this atmospheric engine should, or it's accelerating hard and at 5000rpm it gets power lag for 1 sec and then continues to accelerate. From time to time I'm trying to accelerate, revs are increasing but there is no power.. I have tried to clean MAF, there are no DTC codes... Is it caused by coils or I should to try something else. Thank you in advance for your ideas. PS: great video.
