I recently repaired a roll of pig net that my pigs messed up pretty badly. I followed the directions in this video but I found that after I tied my knots that the loose ends were very annoying. I took a roll of foil tape (used for HVAC) and cut strips of the tape that I then tightly wrapped around the loose wire ends. These secured them very well, resulting in a smooth line without loose ends, and as an added bonus, the tape is conductive so it doesn't create a dead spot in the line. I also used the foil tape when mending verticals. I tied knots above and below the affected section and taped it to the plastic vertical. This fixed the hole and I didnt have to sacrifice the rigidity of the plastic vertical. Also I notice a lot of comments concerning the plastic beads. I had several breaks right next to a bead. I simply tied a knot on the other side of the bead and taped it down. They are holding up quite nicely. I also had many posts that had bent spikes. I found a sledge hammer and anvil work wonderfully for straightening them back out.

The issue with my electric fence is the breaks are right at the little plastic round button joints so I have to cut those out which makes it a much more complicated fix. This video has the break exactly in between the joints. But thanks for the clarification.

It is my honor to leave the 20th comment on this video. Now hopefully I have enough repair material to fix my chewed up fence.

Helpful, thank you. Though I am going to need to go look up the knots because I can't really see what your fingers are doing.

Here are a few tips I found helpful: --Knot ends of the wires before you make the fisherman's knots that connect the pieces together. --When making the fisherman's knot, start by tying the broken piece of wire to itself around the new wire. Now stretch out the new piece so that you know exactly how much you need. Attach it to the other end of the broken wire in the same fashion, starting with the broken wire, and the new wire last. Knot the end of the new wire and cut it. --Use pliers to shape up your knot before applying the ferrule, which is almost too small for the job. --MOST IMPORTANT TIP OF ALL: Get a small roll of 24 gauge copper wire (in the framing department) to assist with this job. Cut pieces as needed to wrap around the wires beginning at the ferrule and working outward in both directions, in order to smooth out the connections and loose ends. This same wire can be used to shore up any weak areas that need reinforcement. --Use 18 gauge wire to mend rigid plastic parts by wrapping above, along, and below the cross wires. Happy mending!

This is overly simplistic. Try doing it in the field, not on a table with exactly cut wires with length to tie off. I have poultry netting which got broken next to the button, leaving me 3/8" of conductive wire left on one side. You only gave me 6 ferules also, and there are 3 breaks, total. Plus the written instructions say to twist the metal wires together first before "connecting" the entire string ends. SMH. For the price, give more ferules. And I'm female with smaller, finer hands and grip. This stuff is stiff and slippery. The average man with working hands would struggle even more. I suggest you show a few, real-life examples. Off to the hardware store.

Where do the brass ferals come from? It looks like he were able to clamp that on after you tied the strands together

Ferrules are included in the repair kit that comes with each roll of netting. Otherwise they are available individually on our website www.premier1supplies.com.

What about the horizontal plastic supports or dividers, whatever they're called? We have several of those plastic pieces that have broken resulting in sagging of the wires.

The biggest problem I have had is not the repair of conducting or non-conducting lines, it is the little plastic buttons which hold the wires in grid or net pattern. The repair kits do not include any of those. I've tried various methods, hot glue, the brass ferules, typing the joints together, but not found any of those particularly effective. Any suggestions on how to replace broken or dislocated "buttons" ?

Great question. We do not have a replacement for the buttons/welds. Our repair is tie either the supplied conductor or non conductive string between the upper and lower lines of the break. This enables the upper string to support the lower. It's functional but not pretty.

I highly recommend that anyone handling these fences use leather gloves. The small wires woven in have a tendency to break and expose needle-sharp ends.

This may be a dumb question but, are the brass ferrules necessary when repairing the bottom, non-conductive cord?

They are not.

when repairing bottom powered wire along bottom of fence do you need to twist the red an white wires together with each other and then onto the unbroken red and white wires? As the repair isn't working....thank you

What about with multiple breaks? I’ve got 40ft that was chewed horizontally through when our energizer went out. I’d love to not have to trash the whole thing.
