Here is a short vlog on the goings on of Gimbal Bearing Replacement , not the best of videos but a good indicator of what happens during this procedure .
it may not hurt to mention that it would be good to check the engine coupling alignment once the bearing is replaced. bad alignment may have been the reason the bearing was shot in the first place.

+Alvin Hilbrec Yes you are right ,always a good thing to check :) This Particular boat is old and a lack of proper maintenance and bad alignment is my best guess at the cause . Check out my other gimbal bearing video on my channel please and comment and tell me your thoughts :) Thanks for the Comment :)

You shouldn't be using 2-4-c grease on gimbal bearings. Mercruiser says "it's not for use on ball, roller, or needle bearings." The Teflon makes bearings glide instead of roll, so any marine grease without Teflon should suffice.

Gimbal, was wrong on the title. It was spelled gimball, but I see it has been corrected. Thank you.

I'm not too sure on the right or wrong way to do this. I am in the process of re-assembling an OMC Cobra (very similar procedure) myself. I'm not too hot on the idea of what went on @3:41 with the steel rod being used as a drift punch...One slip of that rod and you have a damaged bearing. Personally I carved out a wood puck with a recessed center out of a 2x4 to back up the bearing and protect it from a mis-lick. Just an idea thrown out there.

i agree for those that dont have the proper tool using the 2x3 or 2x4 wood about 12'' long is a good idea..

I always wonder about the quality of information when the poster can't even correctly spell words in their area of 'expertise'.

+Delta Douglas Did you kind of notice that English was probably the author's second language? Do you spell everything correctly in your second language? Do you even have a second language?
