Here I thought a riding mower deck belt change was a pain. You are a better man than I...

Sht, your a better man than I, and maybe, based on his time in, while yours may have been spent on other pursuits, you are equal based on your abilities. Me, oh f¥k, I'll never catch up to either of you, especially in this lifetime. Gimme three more. Maybe I can close in. Best wishes

That is very true about many steps to replace the belt. Like MrFixit I installed a belt that was too tight instead of too loose so I had to remove it and reinstall the old belt. When I finished I just tightened the pull wire and it worked. All that work for nothing except I got experience in removing and reinstalling the driving belt. I do not want to do that again. Talk about to the ride on mower that I have to work on when I get time...no rush as I have a couple of Honda mowers in different stages of maintenance that I have to finish first. LOL I want a 30-hour day. Ha HA mowers were all free.

Looks great. Looks like it's going to be great for me this afternoon. Just got 2 out of the landfill. They save stuff for me that I fix up and give to neighbors or strip for parts for them. You and others in different fields do more for them than I could ever do. Best wishes to you all for all of your days to come. Rich MM

Love the way the hub came off after a couple of taps. I eventually got mine off but resorted to using my harmonic balancer. It was on so hard it bent the balancer😂

The oil level check is done on most Hondas with the dip stick not screwed in. You just push it in till ot stops, do not tighten in, and check the oil. Otherwise you will leave yourself a little low on oil.

The problem I ran into while doing this is that the pulley bolt was about impossible to get loose and I could not get the blade adapter off without a puller that i dont have.... So i found an eaier way. I took out the four 10 mm bolts that hold the rear axle in place and unhook the tensioner spring for the rear axle and pulled the whole rear axle out of the unit... Then I bent the belt guard out of the way to put the new belt on then bent them back in place.. fed the belt through while replacing the rear axle and loop the new belt over the blade adapter in onto the motor pulley, replaced the belt retainer on the engine and reattached the rear axle with 4 bolts and the spring and the cable. Total job time (first time doing it) was about 10 minutes incuding adjusting the cable. Way easier than any other way ive seen. Only tools neded is a 14mm & 10mm socket with extension, flat screwdriver to bend tabs and i used channel locks to bend back into place and handy to have a hook tool to reattach tension spring but can use needle nose pliers. Easy peasy.

I just picked up this mower off the curb. The engine runs great. It cuts grass o k, but the rear of the mower sits way lower than the front with the front and rear the highest setting. I can level the deck by adjusting the front. But then I'm cutting at 2 inches.

I watched the whole thing to learn there is a “fine adjustment” that is on the outside cable. - thats alli needed to do and I have a really old mower. You should definitely try that first! It’s counterintuitive fyi- you make the screw longer to tighten. But nice video - thanks!

Since Honda adapted the California emissions spec I doubt it would start just turning the blade by hand, but disconnecting the spark plug lead would be more than safe enough. Copper slip on the blade boss at PDI makes life a lot simpler, but if you buy from an unqualified big box store chances are that will not be done.

Way too much disassembly done here. Remove spark plug boot, turn of fuel, tilt it on the right side, remove blades and hub as one, remove blade guard on hub, push drive arm on transmission all the way up and remove cable. Then you can release tension to remove install belt. You separate pulley on transmission to get belt off transmission pulley. 10 minutes max and that’s with a stuck blade Hub. Smack it dead center and use blades to wiggle off. People make things harder than they should be.

How do I know if it's a drive belt problem vs a worn transmission or cable ?I have an HRB 216
@mrfixit1203
Жыл бұрын
Great question! The main symptoms of bad transmission would be the belt driven pully rotating with the belt but the wheels not spinning. Grinding noise when engaged and with known good belt and proper tension the wheels will engaged and randomly disengage while in use.

I tried using the wrench and crescent wrench and it did't work. One problem I had is that I couldn't get the crescent off. I fired off an email to Honda about this crappy design. All the parts sites show two 10mm bolts connecting that belt guard do the transmission. Not a one piece as on my mower. Did Honda design it this way so I have to purchase a replacement transmission assembly just to replace the belt? Or do I have to remove the assembly on my mower, then bend the guard so I can removed the belt, then bend it back and reinstall the assembly? I thought Honda had better design engineers.

@@6Strings-u2t I didn't save the link but it was very easy to find when searching. But you don't even need it all you do is remove the shield that covers the belt area and then remove the spring that holds the pulley. Hardest thing is putting the spring back.
