@MCFIXIT

Not sure why they break down over time. This one has lasted almost 17 years so that’s a pretty good lifespan. We use that door and lock multiple times a day and the sun hits it for most of the day to sunset since it’s directly west. But yeah, I wish things lasted longer!

The white buttons you're pushing with your finger spin no matter how hard I push with even pliers. It's to the point the screws are just about stripped out and I'm thinking about using a drill bit through the screw. Any ideas on how to get the screw handles out when they're so stuck like that?
@MCFIXIT

Yeah, it sounds like you might need to drill through the screw to get it off. Be careful and choose the right sized bit so you don't do any unnecessary damage!

@kowen5323

The cylinder is usually very easy to replace. If your current handle is in good shape, there's no reason to replace more than the cylinder. If you need it matched to other locks, you'd need a locksmith, but it can be done.

My sliding door lock is broken but I can't get the door to unlock. Tried using a flathead screwdriver to turn the lock but it still won't open
@MCFIXIT
2 жыл бұрын
You might be able to use a pick to get in there and turn it. Also a small flathead might do the same thing. You should be able to move it where the lock is, but you've got to get the right angle and tool to fit in there. Good luck on your project!

I think you bought the wrong lock. There are two styles, 45 degrees and vertical. Look at 2:55 , they don't match. Now with the new lock, your lever is in a different position.
@MCFIXIT

It’s just a different position. It works great. I just let the dog out and locked it afterwards.

When he flipped the lock I was thinking the latch looked upside down. And if you look at product pics on amazon it is.
@kowen5323
Жыл бұрын
On this type of handle it doesn't make much difference. 99% of the time the 45° is the right one. Personally, I would have flipped the mortise lock to lock up. If the door has room to be lifted, pointing down is not as secure. I would have also kept the old keeper because there wasn't any wiggle room. The lock does have adjustment, but they usually come already maxed out. You need a little wiggle room or it's likely to have problems in the future.
