FYI my carb cleaner stripped the paint off my lower unit. I’m not a chemical engineer and maybe some won’t. I have a fishing boat so there are a lot of spots with a lot less paint. But all you fella with glitter rockets might want to not use carb cleaners. Thanks for the video though. It helps me over come my “Every tool is a hammer”

Great video. You made it look easy to install the shaft seals on the water pump housing, but I found it almost impossible. An arbor press would be nice.

A press would make it easy. You also could put the seals in the freezer for an hour.

Awesome video. Thanks for talking slowly enough for people to understand each step that you are taking in the process. This will be my first time doing my own water pump on my F300. Can you post information on the lube that you are using on the gaskets and impeller housing? Thanks very much.

Thank you for the kind words Capt Dave. You can use the Yamalube grease, but even automotive axle grease is fine. I was using a tube of generic 'marine grease' that was a door prize from the AC Fishing show.

@@4RibsFishing Great. I have plenty of Yamalube. Looks like we won't be going to the show at Convention Hall this year.

Nicely done video and super helpful! Point of curiosity, though. You appear to have the starboard cavitation/ventilation plate tape-labelled PORT. Am I missing something? Or am I flipped around? Thanks!

Thank you for the kind comments. I have two motors and I usually only remove the lowers one at a time. For some reason I removed both that day and labeled them to make sure they made it back to the correct spot.

Great video. I like the lower unit stand. Do you have any photos of the stand? Also, about how much does the lower unit weigh?

Thank you Mr Jay. The lower end is more awkward than heavy. I'm going to guess 40-45lbs. I can't seem to be able to post a pic here, but I could make up a quick video if you think it would be interesting content.

Great video! How often do you replace the entire housing vs just changing the impeller? What kind of RTV sealant did you use? Thx
@4RibsFishing

I do the impeller every season, Full kit every other. It's overkill but makes me feel good when 100 miles offshore! Permatex ultra grey was the RTV I used.
@colemant6845

@@4RibsFishing Wow... That is overkill! I go for 3-4 years before a overhaul. 2years on the impeller. BUT, Then again.... I sure don't go 100 miles off shore! Thanks

I use a punch and hit straight down. You could try tapping one side in to the shaft, the half circle shape will kick out the other end out a little and break it loose.
