After I replaced the bats - they now sometimes double flip when I hold the button in. This happened before once in a while but much more now. Any advice?

I would start by making sure the contacts at the buttons are clean. Then make sure your end of stroke switch is correctly adjusted. What machine is it?

It's an Eight Ball machine. I'm sure these flipper assemblies are original. I was thinking of replacing but will try your ideas first. I can't thank you enough for the advice. I love this machine!

Keep me posted. Rebuilding them can only help the machine. The coils do get weak, or more or less slow down due to misadjusted switches and dirty or warped coil sleeves. Also, the coil stops (the bottom part that the coil sits on) there is a plunger stopper in there that tend to get mushroomed over time from being constantly slammed into. This will sometimes create a seal inside the coil sleeve where air gets trapped and the plunger wastes energy and momentum trying to compress the air. The rebuild kits are cheap and if you got new coils they're about $10 each. But you'll notice the difference.

Sorry, I saw this 2 weeks later. First make sure you have new pawls and flipper bat shafts, the correct part numbers. Also, each pawl should have 2 set screws, not just 1.

I apologize. I don't know why I'm just now seeing this. Yes the machine gunning flipper most of the time is caused by a misadjusted EOS or End Of Stroke switch on the flipper assembly under the playfield. The coil that works the flipper is technically 2 coils in 1, a larger diameter wire but short winding to provide power to hit the ball. Then there is a smaller diameter wire with a bunch more windings to provide more resistance with low current in order to allow you to hold the button on without burning up the coil. Look underneath where the flipper comes through. Manually work the flipper by hand and compare it to your other side. You'll see that towards the end of the stroke (plunger pulling all the way into the coil) that the pawl opens a switch. You want this to open juuuussst before the plunger is fully into the coil. If it's opening too soon the flipper gets weak and will bounce and that's what you're seeing. Hope this helps if you haven't fixed it already. Feel free to message back if you have any other questions. Thanks for watching!
