Yep, any parts store should be able to bring in body panels. When possible ask for the certified parts. They cost a little more but always fit better than the “value line “ parts 👍🏼

Great job done right! Have a 14 also, its very solid except the same corner. No sunroof, guess brake light leaked, replaced that gasket also sealed around it, its a bad design. Poked my key through it other day, grabbed tin snips from my tool bucket and wound up with a 2" by 3" hole or less to solid metal, inside is all solid still, few rust flakes. Pretty sure i can weld it up no problem, have galvanized sheet metal from the job site and new lincoln mig to dial in, miller was stolen. For now just want to get it sealed and painted up well inside, its decent still, patched and painted outside before winter. Can pretty it up in spring. I used 3M cavity wax few weeks back in the rockers, all the factory tape was still in place over all the holes, replaced it with gorilla rubber tape, in and over the rear wells to, its supposed to work, i like 3M, definitely coats and seeps well with the 360 wands, made its way out the weep holes, im gonna spray in my door bottoms to. Definitely best video i found on this. Needed a good view of rocker cross section, thanks!!!

I have the same White truck but for some reason the bed skirts rotted out :(. Oh well. Cab corners see ok for now. May cut it out and use body adhesive and bondo with a patch. Bed is 100% not structural. Truck can even ride around without it. Nice work there though!

It might be the first time I see on youtube repairs done properly to the full extent (considering its not a restoration and the value of the car...). Dont feel guilty for showing that you use filler, people need to realize that once you go bare metal, let alone welding, there is no way of doing body work without filler. People might drive a car with an inch of filler for 20 years without even realizing and it might be alright.
@Johnnymidnight
Жыл бұрын
True, it’s funny how watching the high end builders, who do phenomenal metal work, tend to skip over the fact that all of that beautiful metal gets completely done with filler at the end.

I think Eastwood (and others I'm sure) sell primer products with long tubes for doing frame rails, etc. Would a product like that also work to coat the inside after welding and painting?
@Johnnymidnight

Absolutely. Most auto parts stores carry similar products, I believe Crown rust protection makes an aerosol with a long tube, same idea, for getting into tight areas

I wonder why Ford doesn’t make those giant torx fasteners out of some material that wouldn’t corrode in place and be such a pain to get out. I’m not sure what but something had to be better than zinc coated steel? I’m from Seattle, not that far from your place!

What did you spray in there, the brown stuff? Been few yrs since I did rust repair, always something new out. Before I weld mine up I'm using a 1" hole saw out the backside to have access then plug it up with a rubber grommet. I couldn't get to the corner from the rocker, that bump out in corner on the patch panel blocks getting in there, didn't have any undercoat on it, thanks again.
@gene2200

I'm guessing you sprayed rustolium in there, I'm over thinking again, older I get worse I do it. Got in there with phosphoric acid, just gonna use the old rusty metal primer then I'll spray some kinda coating and oil in before and after it's welded through my access hole. Learned long ago never leave metal shavings from a drill in doors or... you'll have insta-rust!

where do you get those cab corners/quick cover, more specifically for a 2021 ford f150 lariat because I've been looking everywhere with no luck
@Johnnymidnight
Жыл бұрын
There are no aftermarket repair panels available for a truck that new, you would be stuck buying a complete OEM side aperture unfortunately. The other option would be to see if a wrecking yard has a damaged cab that they’d be willing to section.(they usually won’t cut apart a good complete cab)
@splitbit992
Жыл бұрын
@@Johnnymidnight idk if this makes a difference but the cab corner for my truck is more like a clip on one where you kinda snap it into place. if they don't make them would that mean I would have to get a whole new rear side welded with a new oem side aperture that covers the cab corners part
@Johnnymidnight
Жыл бұрын
Oh , I see! I guess I’ve never worked on one that new. I just googled it and see what you’re talking about. I checked my supplier and don’t see a listing, so you probably are stuck with the dealer for parts.

how long will a repair like that last before it starts rusting again
@Johnnymidnight

I always treat the inside, so I would expect it to at least last 10 years, which is typically the same timeframe the original parts last in this part of the country

Yes, these fords are pretty tight, I’ve done GM trucks with the bed on because of things like 5th wheel hitches, not the best but you can do it, but I don’t think you’d be able to on an F150

I’ll have to look up the parts, but doing rockers and cab corners on a 99-07 style GM is right around $4000 (Canadian) , so I expect the fords would be pretty close to that
