That's a lot of extra work to remove the knuckle, caliper, rotor, etc. The control arm can be removed by unbolting the ball joint and then removing the 3 bolts on the arm. Less parts to remove equals less chance of a problems.

I would like that. Please forward me the video where you do that on this model, thanks. 😊

If one is not a mechanic (with appropriate tools ) they might not want to deal with ball joint. And likely the aftermarket ball joint is inferior to "old" OEM

@@johnmiller732 The Toyota service manual procedure for replacing the "front lower suspension arm" specifically lays out the replacement as I described. There are two nuts and a bolt that hold the ball joint to the arm. The ball joint does not get disconnected from the knuckle nor does it need to be replaced unless defective. Once the arm is disconnected from the ball joint there are three bolts that hold the arm to the frame/chassis. No special tools required other than normal hand tools.

I have a 99 sienna with 220K miles. Still no signs of improper wear. Alignment is good and tires wear perfectly. there was a time about 20 years ago when I was much younger I would have no problems doing that. But now at my age and problems, I would be afraid to do that. Getting old is not fun. Thanks for the great video. 😀

Only 373 subscribers? KZitem’s algorithm needs to do better to promote this wonderful video. Excellent camera work. Every step was well explained. I will attempt to replace both front wheel bearings on my 2004 Toyota Sienna. You video will be immensely helpful. Thank you for producing it… Cheers!

This video saved me a LOT of grief. Thank you! Initially, I started to just do as other people suggested; just remove the arm itself...until I got to the castle nut on the ball-joint. Ugh. 21-year old cotter pin broke and I had to drill it out. Then I tried using a crescent wrench on the nut...nope...not even with a length of pipe as a breaker. All it did was start to deform the nut. More ugh. I HAD to get at it from the top. So I had to come back to this video and follow most of your steps, and I got it done. (One little thing that I found helpful to get those two big bolts on the arm loose was to position my hydraulic floor jack under the breaker bar and slowly jack it up.)

Hi John, I had to smile when I read your comment. Sorry! I wish you had it on video. Glad you got it done! There is probably quicker, easier ways of doing this, but this way I know you will get it done for sure. :)

Excellent vid! I'll be doing this next week. The procedure may be a bit different for my 2005 Sienna, but most of it should overlap. You gave enough info and visuals for me to figure out the idiosyncrasies with the 05' vs the 00'. 👍💯

this video pretty much shows you, how to remove everything. because to remove the lower control arm you do NOT have to remove all these extra hardware. to remvoe to lower control arm. is on balljoint and like 4 screws. but this video is really helpfull on how to remove everything. good explanation. good video overall

On this vehicle you have to remove everything. Some other vehicles it is not necessary. :)

No I did not, but I think there are some Sienna's where you need to do that to access one bolt. Luckily not on this model!

Why didn't you just unbolt the three lower balljoint bolts?
@Pen_Pusher

There was a problem with that, which I can't recall at this time. Maybe there was no access to one of the bolts. It would have been quicker if I could do that.
