Very great video, both illustratively and informatively. My previous Fiero did not have the stock V6 and this helped me so much. Thank you! 🙏

Brandon Drynan hey Brandon, thanks for the thoughtful comment, I’m glad the video was able to help you out! :) One follow up to the video, after doing this a couple of times while doing other repairs, I’ve come to learn that you can technically change the belts without having to remove the wheel well liner, just an FYI, but it does make it much easier if you at least remove the bottom fasteners of the splash guard - good luck!

I found that to properly and easily adjust the air conditioner belt. You're going to have to remove a bolt from the front Wishbone. Then you can easily move the motor forward, to get to the bolt that has the tension on the air conditioning pump . You might as well change the back three cylinder spark plugs will you have the motor mount undone.

Thank you for sharing, getting tension on that main belt was a mystery to me.

fiero content!!!!! I usually use a pry bar from the top somehow to tension the alternator.

Haha, I finally got around to playing with the Fiero!! And haha, I was wondering the best way to get the alternator belt tight, it’s kind of a pain to get the best angle on that, I can’t imagine doing that with big hands?

This is what I’ve been trying to do, and have been instructed is the easiest, other than using a 16-17mm to pry towards the trunk on the interior side of the alternator bracket. Going to throw some anti-seize on it and try to push it tighter like shown here!

At 4:53 there’s wires connnected to the alternator what does that do? Mine are cut?

Have you ever had to replace the alternator? Mine is seized I already took out the bolts disconnected the wiring and pulled it from it’s position and it almost seems to want to come out but just not quite enough clearance between the alternator bracket and the tie rod and axel I took off the outer tie rod and moved the inner out of the way some which did help but now it’s as if the axel is in the way too, do you have any suggestions on what to do?

Hi Wilson, thankfully (for me) I haven't had to mess with my alternator yet, but apparently it's a bit of a PITA... I checked out this page on the Fiero forum: www.fiero.nl/forum/Archives/Archive-000001/HTML/20040223-2-042182.html Seems like the two options are to either slide it out of the bottom after removing/loosening the actual mount or you could try disassembling the alternator? Apparently the later option isn't too bad, I might try it that way when the time comes for me to attempt this?

I had to take the tie rod end out and take the heat shield off the factory alternator and had to have a helper help move it out, it gets caught in between the bracket and the axel as well so if there’s a way to take off the bracket that adjusts the tension then it’ll make it a lot easier for you

Did it have a tensioner?

Great question, the four-cylinder does have one built in but the V6 is known for having belt squeal because it doesn’t have one... thankfully Rodney Dickman (makes a lot of Fiero parts/kits) developed an idler pulley that somewhat acts in the same manner, as far as keeping the belt tight, albeit not sprung: rodneydickman.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=71 If I were replacing the belt again, I would probably get his kit just to eliminate any need to tighten again over time.

I know, unfortunately it’s a pretty tight fit in the Fiero engine bay, but hopefully my descriptions can help guide the way! 🤞
