Classic G-Body Garage hey man I have a 86 cutlass supreme. It blew both headgaskets and I replaced the starter. I replaced everything but on first startup I forgot to hook up the ground to the alt bracket so it fried the neg battery terminal. Fixed that and got it to turn over. But a day later I have no power anywhere not even interior or radio. Checked fuses and they are good. Any idea to what it could be?! Thanks and love the vids Wish I had as many G body's as you haha

Check the fusable links. They are located on the harness right at the starter. They look like white cylinders in line with the wires. Test to make sure you have power going through them.

Thanks, helpful video. I have a 79 Malibu with a 3.3L / 220 CI and the radiator finally packed it in this year after 42 years. So, in goes the replacement. BTW, most reliable car I have ever owned! Oh yeah, original owner.

That is one nice cutty. And the 260 sounds like it has a lot of life yet. I had the 79’ Cutlass with 260 and those vacuum lines were a pain especially where I live. They was cracking/breaking plenty after just 6 years. But very good engine

A new radiator cap is a good idea as well. A faulty cap that doesn't hold pressure allows the system to boil at a lower temp than a cap that is working properly. This pressure also helps keep the coolant in a liquid state bellow the the boiling point. Air IS introduced into the system on these cars when they constantly overheat (or when the cap pressure is too low) and force the expanded coolant into the coolant recovery tank and then draw the coolant back into the system from the recovery tank. Also a faulty cap that allows the system to build too much pressure can destroy an aluminum core. The aluminum tubes can swell crushing the fins between them. This blocks airflow through the core.

Great video, thank you I have a 85 Monty with the 305. I put a new rad. Clutch fan and two new thermostats. With the thermostat in, it overheats as soon as I drive it. I can let it idle for an hour and it's fine. As soon as I start down the road it goes up to 260. Take the thermostat out of the car and it runs fine. Never gets to 110 Your thoughts

Worth remembering that for CCC equipped G Bodies, a 160 degree thermostat may run too cool and not reach temperature enough for the carb to come off choke and mixture adjustment to lean out for normal running. I have an '86 Monte SS running the stock 195 degree thermostat down here in west central Florida, and it's running a similar plastic/ aluminum radiator that yours had (swapped in recently to replace the original leaking brass radiator). Even in the August heat it holds temp fine around 200 on the gauge, which is close to the 195 that the factory specified. Car runs fine and doesn't overheat, even in traffic.

Chas D that's great, I have a 85 Monte that runs hot every now and then no matter what temp thermostat I put in. With no thermostat in the car it won't even get to 140, even in hot summer traffic. Can't figure this one out?

I run a 195 T stat, cheapy aluminum/plastic radiator like the one that was removed, and it stays dead nuts at 195 even idling in hot summer traffic. I do not have a fan shroud, as my car was a V6 and now has a V8, but I do have a top plate. I need to get that octagonal style shroud that 307 cars had.

Many parts interchange between gbodys so it depends on what you are looking for. The parts the swap are all suspension and most interior. Engine parts swap but you need to keep in mind the engine you are working on. Thanks for subbing!

hello could anyone tell me how to change ac compressor v belt on my 1988 oldsmobile cutlass supreme classic brougham thank you
@ClassicGBodyGarage
5 жыл бұрын
loosen up the accessory brackets and they slide to loosen the belts, remove belt and replace. You will need to remove the belts of any other accessory first as they are in the way. I think the AC belt is the most inner belt so the Power steering and alternator belt needs to come off as well.
