Great tips; the one on putting a piece of paper in the socket wrench to keep the nut in place is a life-saver!

This video was absolutely perfect all the way down to putting the paper between the nut and driver so to not lose the nut. I did manage to drop both, but not from putting them on. I dropped them taking them off, but recovered both. It took me two hours, but I was cleaning things as I went along, and doing other small things to my GT-S. This job should only take about .45 minutes to an hour. The hard part is getting all of the air out of the radiator system. This guy is AWESOME!!!!!!

Ok, I did this today and it worked great with several minor problems. The lower left nut on the thermostat housing is very difficult to get started because of the angle. I stuffed a rag below it so I wouldn't lose the nut. There is a stud that the nut is threaded onto, and a deep socket is too long to clear the alternator and a regular socket is a little too short to clear the length of the stud. I ended up putting the regular socket on the nut, (10mm 1/4" drive), then put the extension into the socket which only went in half way because of the length of the stud, but it was enough to grip if you keep forward pressure into the socket while turning. Actually, I think a 10mm crow's foot would work well here but I didn't have one. After removing the nuts, I had trouble removing the thermostat inlet cover as it wouldn't clear the alternator. I loosened the two bolts on the alternator, 12mm on top, 14mm bottom, (don't remove, just loosen), then pried the alt towards the front of the car just a few millimeters and then I could wiggle it off. Interestingly, my t-stat housing is plastic, and probably a little thicker than fixyourride13's metal one. One disappointing thing I discovered, is that you can't leave the T-stat out and hook everything back together in order to circulate some flush chemicals through the system as the housing will leak like a screen door on a submarine without the t-stat and it's rubber gasket in place. It's the rubber gasket that seals the t-stat housing and not just the mating surfaces. This is on a 2001 Celica so other vehicles may be different. Cheers.

good video, thanks helped a lot , had to move my alternator forward about 3mm to get the cover out . Don't forget to follow instructions on the inside hood for bleeding the system. or you will get air locks and over heat.

What is the part number of the thermostat that fit in a toyota celica VVTL-i 2001? i have a problem with my car, i put a new motor, and the water temp gone high, some i change the thermostat, and even the two motor fan and the car still reheat, this only happend when i have the air conditoner on and the car is run... cold you give me your opinion?

+Jonnathan Garcia Hey brother, you may have to keep "burping" the heating system to get all the air out. Massage the upper and lower radiator hoses, and take it out on a run to help circulate the anti freeze. I used a 180 degrees thermostat from Napa Auto Parts. It works just fine. Goood luck!!!

@jang9672

Odkręcasz nakrętkę i tę mniejszą do odpowietrzania (valve cap, i bleeding cap). Pozdrawiam :)
