I want to give credit where credit is due!!! I have been without air conditioning in my Subaru for about six months and it has truly affected my life. Money is tight, and so has been time and energy. It was finally the right time, I ordered the AC Heater blower motor from Auto Zone, and I watched your video carefully all the way through twice. I really appreciate how patient and thorough you are in your explanations! And guess what!?!?This lady right here successfully changed her AC Heater blower motor on her own today, and had the best drive around town WITH AC … that I have been without all summer. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your video. I did not have anyone to show me anything about cars when I was growing up so now as an adult, I am trying to teach myself. Thank you so much again. @Ashley Long NICE JOB! Congrats on doing this job on your own. I know many people right now are tight on money, and taking a vehicle to the shop or the dealer just isn't always a possibility. I am happy you found my video and watched it twice. When I make my videos they are made for people that don't work on their cars normally. Seeing a project done from start to finish and realizing how easy something is to do. I won't make videos where steps are missing. Nothing worse than having someone get part way into a job and say, "Umm... what?" Thank you for your kind words. It was my pleasure to give you the confidence to do the job on your own. I'm giving you credit where credit is due as well. As I said in the video, "Don't be afraid to work on your own car." Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. BRAVO!

Nice video. Thanks. My 2014 Forester fan was still running just fine but was clicking and I figured I might have to replace the blower motor. Once I had the blower out (thanks for your instruction) I took the fan off the motor (tricky, but do-able.) This gave me access to the motor and I gave it a few shots of silicone lubricant. The clicking went away immediately. $140 online for a new blower is a LOT less than you'd pay to have the shop replace it, but $0 is even better - if that solves your problem.

I live an hour from my dealer but made the drive since I was under warranty. They told me I just had too much in my glove box. Since all that’s in there is my registration and car manual I had to do this myself. Took me 10 minutes to get this completed. I waited 2 hours at the dealer for them to not even bother to look. Right now, we’re in a heat wave with temps running around 115° to 120°+ during the day. My fan stopped working which means, yes folks, NO A/C! No bueno and not pretty showing up soaked with sweat. The first time I changed the fan blower it cost $200. This time they wanted $225 to replace some sensor and to replace the blower ($450!). That’s not happening and they lost a customer for good. I bought the replacement from AutoZone for $110 and will be replacing it myself - thanks to this video! I will definitely subscribe to his channel! THE BEST VIDEO EVER!

@IamWedge
3 жыл бұрын
Hey, @trey holland. There are a couple differences. Outback has screws inside the glovebox. That is if you need to do your cabin filter. Just look around you should be able to locate them all. But, if you want to remove the Motor you can try popping the kick panel under the glove box. See the 3:10 mark in the video. Not sure if Outback uses screws or push pins like mine. Yes, you will have to unplug the harness from the fan. The wire harness can be a little tight so just be patient removing it. I'm sure the fan like the Crosstrek will only seat in one way.

Hello, thank you for the super informative vid!! Is there any good way to confirm that it’s the blower motor as opposed to a blown fuse or a short before buying the new blower motor and testing it? My 2021 Crosstrek sport has stopped blowing any air on any setting. Went out once randomly during a drive but it kicked back on within 10 mins, then suddenly this past weekend it has stopped working in general except for one random morning I was able to get a little airflow

I'd suspect your motor in that case though I'm no expert. Mine similarly comes on sometimes, sometimes won't come on, sometimes comes on with extra noise. I think a fuse would more likely just be a total 'off' rather than intermittently working to differing extents.

Hi there, can you help me with a question? I have a 2016 Subaru outback. My air flow is weak and I hear a knocking under the glove box. It occasionally has a little kick of energy and blows a little harder every 10 seconds or so. Still cool air. But, when it’s dark/cooler outside the ac works perfectly fine and blows hard. And no knocking noise. Why is it only affected in the heat? Something electrical? I tried to check the fuse but I am unable to get them out. Cabin air filter is new and clean. I figured it was the blower motor, but I just don’t understand why it’s only malfunctioning in the heat. I felt around in the blows motor when I took the filter out, no debris. Actuator symptoms don’t fit here, the temp is fine and both sides work fine when it’s cool outside. And no clicking . Blower motor resistor could be it, but I am just not sure.
@IamWedge

Sounds like the blower motor is going. Your motor will run better at night when it is cooler out. When you are in heat of the day. Everything expands. The knocking is the blower tapping on the side walls of the blower compartment. When you have that cabin air filter out (and the motor off) reach in there and see how much movement there is side to side.

@@mariosmith8456 I've had debris get by the filter. Full the filter and see what it looks like. You might be able to take your phone with the light on and take peek into the motor housing. It is possible something is underneath the blower (fan). You could always just drop the blower motor out and see if something falls out. If you have that turbo sound, it could be the blower rubbing the sidewall of the housing. So look for scuffing around the top area of the housing. Also, see how the shaft feels. Is it wobbling? @Fanatic76 When your fan is working and you go through the different speed setting does the speed change at each number on the dial? Its hard to diagnose what its doing.
