Onsrud Tech Tips - Changing & Surfacing Your New Spoilboard
NOTE: In this video, you will see our operators machining their new spoilboard on top of the machine's phenolic table. Please do not machine your new spoilboard on top of your phenolic table. Leave your old spoilboard on while following the directions below.
1) SURFACE THE BOTTOM - Place your new spoilboard on top of your old spoilboard. - Turn your vacuum on, program your fly cutter to take a pass at 0.010" - 0.015" depth-of-cut and surface the entire spoilboard.
2.) MACHINE COUNTERSINK HOLES - Turn your vacuum off, flip your new spoilboard, align it to the edge of your table, and then turn your vacuum back on. - To program your countersink holes, reference the machine drawing in your owner's manual for their locations. Then, program your machine to route in these locatoins at a 0.420" - 0.470" depth-of-cut using your 1/2" router bit.
3.) DRILL CLEARANCE HOLES - Use a 17/64" drill bit to machine 0.005"-0.010" beyond the thickness of your new spoilboard and in the same locations as your countersink holes. - You will be machining into your old board during this operation. This is why you leave your old board on. It provides a safety buffer for this drilling operation so you don't machine into your machine table.
4.) SURFACE THE TOP Turn your vacuum off, remove your old spoilboard, reposition/align your new board so your holes match up, turn the vacuum back on, screw your new spoilboard down, and re-run your surfacing program.
Now you're ready to machine!
