I changed my spark plugs at 25,000 km after watching an earlier video of yours on this subject. Your video gave me the confidence to try it myself. I now have nearly 50,000 km on my 2017 Strom purchased new in April 2018. It is running like a Swis clock so I think I will leave this set of plugs in longer. You make it look so easy, but I found it a challenging job. I am glad I did it. I will do the next change when I think it is due, however I will watch this video before I attempt it as there is always something new to learn. I do most of my own maintenance with the guidance of your videos. Thanks Nils, your videos are brilliant I love them. If you and your partner ever come to Australia, we live in Brisbane, please be our guest in our comfortable home. I will be your tour guide and also take you on some amazing day rides.

It's lucky that the V-Stroms are reportedly one of the most reliable bixe in the world. That said doing this kind of maintenance to keep the bike reliable is a must. Very well presented video thankyou for that.

Very helpful, thank you very much. Sometimes I really wonder why engineers perform such a mess of a design for something streetable, not a race application. In fact I have many answers for that, but those don't make it a brighter design. By luck people like you eases the thing a bit and makes the world turn a bit rounder. Again Thank's

Good afternoon, Dr. V-Strom. Can you tell how many kilometers you ride before changing spark plugs? Do you do this according to a manual or you ride a little bit more?
@DrVstrom
Жыл бұрын
Good afternoon. Suzuki and every other company out there needs to make sure of your safety by ensuring the sparks always do their job. As a result, and because most people might be changing those on dealerships, it might be safe to assume the intervals of changing those might be a bit earlier than needed. I personally and I do not encourage anyone to do this, but based on my experience with motorcycles, assuming you take good care of your engine and put the right fuel, the spark plugs can at least double their life for someone like me. However, like I said not everybody takes care of their motorcycle like me. Ride safe my friend. Feel free to add me on instagram for more direct communiaction.

The front plug on the 2005 650 is an absolute pig to get to , took the radiator off and made sure was in properly, after riding in the rain my bike completely shut down and when I pulled of the front ht cap it was full of water , who ever had bike before me obv just done the plug up fingertight and this came the problem, hopefully now all is good however I might get a new HT cap for the front

The plastic piece he removed off the bottom of the radiator is designed to stop water being flung from the front wheel to the HT lead, was a common problem on SVs I believe make sure it's there too.

Thanks for the video, could you do a video about valve checks?
@DrVstrom

Such a video is something that not a lot of people would be following due to the high degree of difficulty and to be honest my valves are perfect still so perhaps in the future when the time comes.
@Linkonem

@@DrVstrom yeah sure, I know valves do not usual require maintenance all the time. But my motorcycle has some ticking it could be valves as well as piston rings or i oil not thick enough. i was planning on changing the Spark plugs and tyres on a dealer shop but I'll just do the tyres. I'll check spark plugs myself. Thanks to your video

@@Linkonem what is the mileage on your bike? The Suzuki manual recommends that valve clearance check is done at 15,000 miles. I don't know if damage can be done to the engine if perhaps the valves have shifted so it may be that it is a very important job to do. I ask this because I am not sure of the answer to this question myself. Perhaps doctor V Strom could share about this?

Hello friend, I've seen some tutorials in which they use copper grease on the threads of the spark plugs, I noticed that you don't use it, what's your opinion about it, congratulations for the spectacular video, hugs from Brazil.

Cheers Doc,I'm having a nightmare with my 1050cc strom,took it in for a service and they've found a crack in the rear brake caliper, waiting for a new one to be shipped from Germany. Its with regret,I'm looking for a new bike,considering going a bit old school, royal enfield interceptor..
@DrVstrom
Жыл бұрын
Well to be fair the calipers are not manufactured by Suzuki but yes modern bikes have lower quality parts for cost and weight loss reasons and I also do not like that.
@haggishead7558

Does this apply to the 2013 Suzuki V Strom 650A? I have to also clean the air filter and check the valves though I'm not sure if the valve check is a possible job for an amateur like myself. What do you think about unqualified amateur mechanics doing the valve clearance check?
@DrVstrom
Жыл бұрын
The spark plugs apply and the air filter job is easy. The valve check is another story and a bit more complicated. I do not know your skills so perhaps either do this with someone else who has done it before to ensure no problems.

Why for the V-Strom models between 2017 and 2020 are not Iridium spark plugs (CR8EIA-9) recommended (and installed by stock) and in the models with pretty same engine before And after they are used again?
@DrVstrom

Fo 3rd gen it is not CR8EIA-9. Watch the video in the beginning the part number. It is a special spark plug.

@@DrVstrom yes yes, but the question was if you know WHY it's the case. What's different in that engine model? Shouldn't it be the same as in the ones after 2020 as well or those before? Was it a trick from Suzuki regarding any Euro-norms or maybe a temporary money saving measurement? Hmmmm
