If you ever wonder what you could do with spent bullet casings other than leaving them to rust and corrode in the dirt, I’m going to show you a quick way to recycle them by turning them into elegant candles. This is a 7.62x54R steel casing which will be perfect because it has a rim on the base that will aid in stability. Vegetable oil is very common to have in the household. Although this works well as a fuel source, lamp oil or kerosene can be used. Just fill the casing up to the top. I’ll be using cotton cooking twine as the wick. Any natural cordage should work as long as it can suck up the oil faster than it’s being burned off. Feed the wick into the casing until it touches the very bottom and cut the excess. If you want a larger wick / larger flame, you can double up the string by twisting it onto itself. But back to the single strand candle. It puts out a pretty bright flame. Since the steel never gets too hot to hold, it can easily be carried around. I would recommend that you test it for yourself if you try different oil or wick material, as it may get hotter than mine did. Also be careful not to knock over the candle; it will not be fun to clean up or potentially start a fire. This candle lasted over an hour before I called it quits and there was still plenty of oil left over. Well that's it, now you know a simple way to recycle used bullet casings.
