I'm getting a lot of comments and messages about people being unable to find colleges that will let them resit. If you call a college up and they say yes, great. If they say no, you go above them. My resit college's admissions team rejected me, then I emailed the principal and told him about my situation, didn't mention his admissions team has already rejected me, and he got me enrolled somehow. You have to come across convincing. You're more likely to get a college to let you resit if you speak 1-1 somehow to someone who has the authority to push for you and convince them. That being said, as long as you remain focused, you can do just as well as a private candidate. I just RECOMMEND doing it at a college/sixth form.

I just wanna say thank you for this video, I am in an extremely similar position. While i received good gcses (7,8,9) I ended up with a CCD ( 2 marks from a B in bio). I really didn’t understand the amount of work needed for A levels and moreover my teachers were very discouraging. Near my exams I had some personal circumstances which did have an effect on me, nevertheless at the end of the day its my own lack of work. I too have asian parents who completely disregard me when I mentioned a gap year to resit. unfortunately my school is very unwilling to help with this, they are also the only good 6th form/college in my area. the other are pretty run down with poor performance so resitting with school may not be an option. however i believe im capable of much more and am hoping to resit privately. Inshallah all goes well

Can definitely relate to this! Coming from an Asian household you're always expected to be smart and you need to ACE those exams My situation is similar to yours: I got DEE and deep down i knew i probably didn't put in the needed effort and my parents were fairly disappointed. I have an older brother who aced his exams, got AAB and it was always the comparison. I have been so shattered, had PLENTY of mental breakdowns, always wanted to drop out and consider what my parents wanted me to do(which is also going to a uni i don't really want to) and i told my dad i wanna continue and try to do better and i'll resit even if it means having to do so many papers at a go to get better grades and i pushed myself to start with the A2 syllabus in july before resutls and i've been constantly pushing myself to continue reading. On the point where parents would be like oh we always believed you would ace it when they see your results next year; YOU ARE SO RIGHT My dad really has no belief in me as of now(my mum believes i can if i point out my mistakes), he literally despises me for failing my exams and not meeting up to his expectations and it hurts so much(one of the causes of my breakdowns) because if your parents don't support you, who will? He thinks i still waste time, doesn't know what i do on a daily basis and won't even bother asking or seeing what i really do and still tells me "you need to get serious" Watching your video gave me the motivation to do better for myself and make it because it is possible if you believe in yourself and work harder than ever and that even if your family doesn't really believe in you, use that as your strength and let it motivate you to keep moving towards what you want.

@@aoy1889 In terms of how, I contacted the principal or head of the school directly. Get in touch with admissions, if they say no, get in touch with the principal. Inshallah I got into my firm uni with AAC I’m just so disappointed that I only got the C in bio but it’s honestly cause I neglected the subject the majority of yr 13 and then crammed revising the content in the last 2 months before the exam. If you’ve taken a level bio you’ll know that the amount of content you have to know for the exams is crazy! I've been really torn lately cause I didn't by any means get what I wanted/needed for my firm university. I ended up looking through clearing and even then, I'm not very happy with my options. I have a place at a lower ranked uni for a biology degree, but I don't know if that university is for me to soak 4 years in to and am very uncertain of whether I should resit. If I did, my college doesn't allow repeated years and a lot of sixth forms near me don't either, so id be a private candidate at home until the exams. Im so motivated to improve my grades as I know I simply did not start my revision nearly early or hard enough but a year on my own with no classes or friends after they mostly go to uni this year, I'm thinking of just sucking it up and going to this uni now. Im also unsure of the biology pathway entirely, with its prospects as I'm unlikely to try to go to medical school and its low pay ceiling after the fact. I've been researching engineering and I like the look of it too (especially mechanical and aerospace) but again a year of risk to go to a slightly more reputable uni (hopefully Russel group if they allowed it) for it may not be worth the time as my friends and family keep pointing out. Would love some suggestions/advise if anyone has any. Thanks! :)

You seem a bit all over the place. If you're not happy with where you're going and what you're studying, resit. If you are happy, don't resit and move forward. Don't think about wasting a year or your friends moving on etc, in the grand scheme of things, a year is nothing and you won't even remember it once you've gotten where you wanted to go.

You're scared you won't do better, but you're not scared of £27,750 of debt minimum in a degree you don't even want to do? The only way you don't improve after a whole extra year is if you don't apply yourself at all. Either that, or CCC is the absolute best you can do even with all these hours of studying. @@hamza14359 Depends greatly on where you're at right now. Did you narrowly miss out or were you quite a ways away? And yes, I'm planning on resitting also as I didn't achieve the grades that I wanted. But I personally tend to be much more productive at home than I tend to be at school, so I'm wondering, is it still possible for me to get those grades that I want without the daily assistance of a teacher? Hey there. First thing I'd need to know before giving any kind of advice is what you want to do? If it's something like medicine that's highly dependent on grades, I'm afraid there would be no other option than to try and do your exams again or go into a uni with lower requirements. Regardless of subject you could consider starting a degree elsewhere or apprenticeships just to get the ball rolling for yourself and revise for exams regardless of your new commitments so when summer comes you can take time off work or from uni and sit them. You could still apply to uni whilst on the apprenticeship, and if you do well enough, leave your apprenticeship and start your degree in the next Sep/Oct.
