I had a horseshoe like this. I wanted to hang it in a conspicuous place, but in such a rusty state it looked terrible. So I decided to restore the horseshoe for good luck. The first thing I did was get rid of the rust. I mixed a solution of citric acid. To do this, I heated the water, so the acid dissolves faster. Left a horseshoe for 24 hours. The rust is almost all gone. This way there will be less debris and dust flying in the workshop. Before sanding, I had to Unscrew the spikes (this is how I understand the winter version of the horseshoe). But there was a problem, the horseshoe was very rusty, and how to Unscrew the sour thread I did not know. But I found a way. Using a gas burner, I heated the threaded connection almost to red. And already the key has unscrewed both threaded connections. Then I sharpened the outer surface of the horseshoe on the grinder. I used the drill and nozzle to clean the rest of the sides, but I didn't need to, because I still wanted to do as little as possible. Then I put a circle on the grinder and started grinding with abrasives. First the grain size is 600, then 1500 and 2000. In hard-to-reach places, to finally clean out the rust, I used an engraver with a diamond attachment., since I planned to paint the recesses in a Golden color. Before painting with duct tape, I closed the sanded areas so that the paint did not get there. I spray-painted it and removed the duct tape. It remains only to screw the spikes and everything is ready! I hope you enjoyed my restoration. Like and subscribe to the channel!
