How to properly ride a NJ Transit train: Make sure you're on the right platform the train's departing from. Also, double check with the conductor before you board your train, that it's your outbound train you're supposed to be on (Usually the conductor's standing near the train). You don't want to jump on the train, only to find out from the conductor when he collects your ticket, that you're on the wrong train. Happened to me once. As luck would have it, there was an inbound train within 5 minutes. Crossed the tracks, back to Hobo, caught the correct train. All Aboard!!

If asking a conductor, make sure you are near either the front or rear when the train stops. That’s where they will be. Rear though is more reliable.
