@@stevebrown6668most states you don’t need to have one for a cane pole. Anything with a reel you do.

Never got big into fishing as a kid. Recently been wanting to get into it and hunting more. My grandfather was an excellent fisher and hunter. I was planning on having him teach me all of these things, but he unfortunately passed away. I wish he was here to teach me, but this video was great!

Instead of a clench knot you can make a loop at the end of the leader and pull the leader through the eye so you can switch the leaders quickly

I wanted to clarify - Are you suggesting that a Perfection Loop Knot is used in order to make a Leader out of a monofilament or Flouro line towards the last few feet of line of the pole OR are you suggesting that a 10 foot line is ready and waiting with a Perfection Loop Knot so the pole can be redone in a hurry? Pls note - I normally run Braid with a Fluoro Leader on my telescoping poles.

THIS is what I was looking for....know nothing about putting together a line for fishing and wanted to maybe do some perch fishing. I think this is simple enough I can make this happen. Thank you so much for your help and good camera work. Jesus bless.

Good video. Taking a friend's kids fishing this weekend. Used to fish with cane poles as a kid, but needed to refresh my knowledge. We used real cane poles, so in addition to tying off at the tip, we would wrap the 2 ft or so tag end around the pole and cinch it down about 18 inches back from the tip, in case the tip broke off. Happens now and then with bamboo. Not sure if it's necessary with the fiberglass rods.

I've been doing this since I was old enough to hold a pole and while I understand why you picked the hook choice I do think this should be the most basics of how to rig a telescoping pole. The fish I go for will change what I use for the hook/jig. I heard you say to stick with 8lb test and I have pulled in bass on my backup telescoping pole after the line on my first one broke so . . . .despite the area I was fishing in being filled with bluegill and pumpkins there can always be bigger fish caught on a pole as well. I change the bobber placement depending on the depth of the water, weeds, fish, and the depth the sun is going into the water and when you wrap up a telescoping pole sometimes the bobber just doesn't sit in a great spot or you take it off for transport. I really prefer a 3/8 in or 1/2 in pencil Thill Bobber if I am fishing for sensitive fish or fish who steal bait easily. A foam bobber is not very sensitive when these poles were originally made from wood and so were the bobbers we used with them that were perfectly carved to be very sensitive. Please use a hook, jig, or your choice for the fish you want to catch in the area (weeds or open water) you will be fishing in.

Wrap the line down the length of the pole and just thread it thru the tip eye. You can use more line and use the whole pole.

Correct. Tip top wasn’t intended to be a fixing point. Real cane will break at the tip if the line isn’t twisted around it. The cane poles we used to buy came with 12 lbs line. I watched my cousin land a 32 lbs carp on one.

i was gifted a cheap 10 ft. cane pole a long time ago, and it just kinda sat around. i actually realized i could unscrew the bottom and slide out the top part for tiny stream/microfishing applications, but now i'm starting to see the true potential, with the full 10 foot length allowing for much more stealth. great job explaining the utility of this thing, and how to rig it. just subbed, i like the cut of your jib! where are you based out of?

Ok I was always told to get enough line to go from the but of the pole tie off there then go through the eyelet tie off there that way if you get something big and brake the tip off you can still pull in that big fish...

used them for years, now use tenkara- so much more light weight- but also more breakable- i use 6 pound test 10 foot of line, 10 foot pole- retired 5 years ago and fish daily- average yearly catch is 1,000 fish--mostly blue gill and I catch and release all my fish- I sue trout flies-
