*These work with rod and reel or tip ups **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s good for keeping snow out of the hole and to greatly slow hole freezing. They are not heavy so need to be held down by tip up or some snow/ice shavings if windy. Have not had them freeze down even when placed in wet ice shavings.*

Thanks, what is the size of the orange hook?
@BryanProkuski

I think I was using size #4. Really depends on what your targeting. Walleye, I like a smaller hook, so the minnow looks as real as possible.

Hey man I know I’m a little late but what pound line do I use for a leader for walleye tip up
@BryanProkuski

I usually use 8lb mono but you can probably use 6-10lb or higher if need but the light line the less it is visible.

an easier way to do tip ups is to split apart a snap swivel. Tie one piece onto your dacron, and tie the the other snap piece to a pre made rig. Have a bunch of pre tied rigs ready with you so you spend more time fishing, less time tying. if your line gets a nick or cut you don't need to waste time tying another rig on the ice, just snap on a new one. It's also WAAAAAY easier switching from walleye to pike setups quickly.

Could I use 12 pound regular fishing line for leader for walleye?
@BryanProkuski

Sure. I would rather have heavier line then lighter and be sorry later.

Wait, whyd you use a 20lb leader on a 40lb line? I was always under the impression that for pike you go for a heavier leader so they cant chomp through it easily.
@BryanProkuski

20lb steal leader is plenty for me. You can go bigger if you want. This was just the harness I bought came 20lb. I wouldnt want to go any under 20 though for pike.

In clear water u use 50lb mono. I never use wire.....unless ur fishing for 60lb musky, wire is totally un-needed overkill

Use can use braid for a leader maybe but not to spool for main line. You need to use the special tip up line, doesn't cut your hands and doesn't get knotted up like regular line. Was waiting for someone to say something about the C lol.. Go bears!
@WheresTheSauce

Yes you can use braid for tip ups BUT it needs to be really thick so it won't cut your hands. I wouldn't go any lighter than 50lb regular braid line. Dacron (tip up line) is cheap so unless you have lots of surplus musky braid, i'd just buy the proper stuff.
